RB Leipzig say Bayern have not made Timo Werner transfer offer

RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick has insisted that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have not tabled a bid for club striker Timo Werner.

This comes after reports suggested that Werner’s agent has already agreed to personal terms to join the reigning German champions this summer.

Will Werner leave Leipzig? Five things you need to know…

  1. Timo Werner joined RB Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016 for €10 million, a club-record signing.
  2. The 22-year-old has made 102 appearances for Leipzig, scoring 55 goals.
  3. This season, Werner has scored 13 in 25 games in all competitions, including 11 in the Bundesliga.
  4. He is just four goals short of the Bundesliga’s current top scorers for this season, with Luka Jovic and Robert Lewandowski both on 15 goals.
  5. Werner’s performances have led to reports suggesting that he is close to a move to Bayern Munich.

Bayern certainly have a history of poaching promising players from fellow Bundesliga sides as they assert their dominance at the top of Germany’s best division.

Supposedly, Werner’s performances have attracted the attention of Bayern but that doesn’t mean Leipzig will just crumble and allow their main striker to leave the club.

Contracted until 2020, there is just one year remaining on Werner’s current deal but Rangnick insists that there is no agreement between the two sides on the sale of Werner, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

Rangnick said: “A possible agreement is impossible for 2019 [right now].

“We would have to agree, and we are not.

“Nobody has approached us from Bayern.”

Werner has also reportedly been a target of Premier League side Liverpool, with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp particularly fond of the German.

“This is not like Goretzka and Lewandowski”

Referring to previous rival players making the switch to Bayern, Rangnick assured Leipzig supporters that Werner’s contractual situation will not ultimately end with the player moving for a free transfer.

If Werner wants to leave the club for Bayern, then Rangnick’s comments suggest that although the clubs are yet to agree upon a deal, they may end up doing so this summer.

Rangnick said: “There will not be a case like Leon Goretzka and Robert Lewandowski between us and Timo Werner.

“This option does not exist and we do not need to talk about this scenario.

“Clubs that want him will report in the summer and then we will find a fair, mutually agreed solution.

“Everything else is not an option.”
