Chelsea team-mates need to offer Hazard more support, says Rudiger

Chelsea need to offer star man Eden Hazard more support going forward according to club defender Antonio Rudiger.

Hazard has started this season in electric form for the Stamford Bridge club as they look to challenge current champions Manchester City and title chasers Liverpool for the Premier League top spot.

The Belgium international has scored over a third of Chelsea’s goals in the Premier League after seven matches for the Blues including a hat-trick against newly-promoted Cardiff City.

However, club centre-back Rudiger believes that the squad aren’t doing enough in the final third to help support the 27-year-old and insists Chelsea’s other attacking options need to get themselves among the goals this season to relieve the pressure on Hazard’s shoulders.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Rudiger said: “We need to learn to kill matches. It’s not only on Eden’s shoulders. We need the other players to help him with scoring.

“He has been doing his job very well again, but the other guys must score too – Giroud, Morata, Willian have to score. As a team all of us have to provide more goals, the defenders as well.

“At the end of the day the best scorers are Hazard and Pedro, but with the quality of players we have on the pitch, it’s (the lack of goals from elsewhere) not too good.”

Hazard – his season so far

Chelsea’s star man remained in west London this summer following continued interest from Real Madrid, with the playmaker equally happy to leave the club as he was to stay.

Flourishing under new manager Maurizio Sarri, Hazard has scored six goals in seven games in the Premier League which is already half of his total last season.

He also scored a terrific goal against Liverpool away at Anfield in the EFL Cup as Chelsea progressed further in the competition with a 2-1 victory on Merseyside.

Chelsea remain unbeaten since their 2-0 Community Shield defeat against Manchester City in early August, an impressive run of nine competitive games.

If Hazard can keep this highly impressive goalscoring ratio up, not only will he finish with the highest scoring season of his career but he may be the key factor in the Blues getting their hands on the Premier League title for the first time since they lifted the trophy in 2017 under former coach Antonio Conte.
