‘Gonzalo Higuain is the most complete striker in Serie A’ – Materazzi

AC Milan‘s Gonzalo Higuain is the most complete striker in Serie A, according to former Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi.

Higuain joined AC Milan from Serie A rivals Juventus on a season-long loan in the summer and has hit the ground running, scoring four goals in five league games so far.

This comes after the Argentine had scored 40 goals in 73 Serie A games for Juventus and a further 71 in 104 for Napoli since leaving Real Madrid in 2013.

But, despite being hailed as the most complete striker in Serie A, Materazzi believes Higuain still needs to prove himself in the big games.

“Andriy Shevchenko was more decisive than Gonzalo Higuain, because he never got it wrong in a derby,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia).

“Higuain might be the most complete striker in Serie A right now, but he tends to make very little difference in the big games.

“We’ll see how he does in his first Milan Derby.”

Higuain will be relied upon on Sunday when AC Milan take on their bitter rivals Inter Milan with the Rossoneri looking to get their season up and running after a mediocre start.

Milan are currently 12th in Serie A while Inter sit fourth, behind only Lazio, Napoli and runaway leaders Juventus.

Higuain: the most complete striker?

Despite being tipped as the most complete striker in Serie A by Materazzi, Higuain is still some way off the top scorers in the division this season.

Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek currently leads the way with nine goals, the joint-most scored in Europe’s top five leagues, with both Ciro Immobile and Gregoire Defrel managing more than Higuain in Serie A.

The Argentine has also been largely uncreative for his team-mates creating just eight chances this season, recording one assist while winning just six aerial duels.
