Manchester City defender John Stones is a player “the club can’t do without” according to fellow centre-back Vincent Kompany.
Pep Guardiola’s side have started the season in the same vein of form as last year and currently sit top of the Premier League after nine matches, unbeaten with 23 points to their name.
Stones – who has become a vital player for both club and country – has already won two trophies (Premier League and League Cup) in the space of just over two seasons since his £47.5 million move from Everton in 2016.
The 24-year-old has established himself as a regular at the Etihad, with his ability to not only pass from the back defend diligently, but also his versatility, making him an asset City simply can’t afford to lose.

Speaking to Manchester City TV after their emphatic 5-0 home victory against Sean Dyche’s Burnley, club captain Kompany has admitted the side needs Stones in order to continue their pursuit of further titles and honours.
“I think he’s got the brightest of all futures,” Kompany said.
“I mean, he is already a top, top player, a top centre-half and he’s able to play out of position and still make it look natural.
“He’s a player we cannot do without at our club, with everything we are trying to achieve.
“I couldn’t name many, many steps he has to put to convince everyone, just consistency and winning trophies and I think everyone will recognise how good of a defender he really is.”
City’s season so far
The second year of Guardiola’s reign saw City run away with the Premier League title last season and this term they lead from the front yet again.
They have won seven games out of nine in the league, drawing against Liverpool and newly-promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring a massive 26 goals while conceding just three.
After a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Ligue 1 side Lyon in their opening match of this season’s Champions League, they followed that up with an impressive 2-1 away victory against German outfit Hoffenheim.
Into the fourth round in the League Cup, the current holders will face current Premier League strugglers Fulham at the Etihad on November 1st.
