Granqvist ‘flattered’ by reported Man Utd interest

Andreas Granqvist says he is “flattered” by reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The 33-year-old Swedish centre-back previously enjoyed two seasons in the Premier League with Wigan Athletic and is currently playing for his first club Helsingborgs.

A seemingly wanted man, local media has recently suggested United want to sign him on loan in January, thus reuniting him with compatriot Victor Lindelöf.

And although Granqvist is aware of the reports, the defender has stressed there’s nothing concrete.

“I know that there is a lot of interest for me. United is incredibly flattering but I have not heard anything concrete yet,” he told FotbollDireckt.

The lowdown on Granqvist

Born and raised in Påarp the 77-time capped Sweden international to date has represented no fewer than six clubs across five different countries.

Following his first spell at Helsingborgs he’d join Wigan (2007-08) before enjoying three seasons in the Eredivisie with FC Groningen (2008-11).

From there he’d move to Serie A outfit Genoa (2011-13) before settling down at Russian Premier League mainstays Krasnodar (2013-18) and then returning home.

An ever-present with Sweden since winning his first cap in 2006 he’s played at four major international tournaments with this summer’s World Cup finals seeing him bagging two goals against South Korea and Mexico.
