Marouane Fellaini explains Man Utd’s pre-match huddle vs Valencia

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has admitted the team’s huddle ahead of their Champions League game against Valencia on Tuesday was a show of support for Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils went into the game in bad form having drawn one and lost two of their past three matches which included a Carabao Cup third-round exit to Derby County and humiliating defeat at the hands of West Ham United.

Those results, coupled with reported off-field problems, had led to Mourinho’s role as United manager coming into doubt with former midfielder Paul Scholes admitting his surprise the Portuguese wasn’t sacked.

And Fellaini has now revealed his team-mates planned a pre-match huddle ahead of Tuesday’s game against Valencia to show their determination to improve on their recent form.

“Everyone is going in the same direction to try to improve and to do better. I think we wanted to show that we are together,” he said on the huddle (via the Independent).

When asked whose idea the huddle was, Fellaini added: “Everybody. I think everybody is behind the manager. We have to do our best and do our job. We showed it today but we have to do better on Saturday.

“I think it was a bad day against West Ham. We were all bad. Today I think we showed improvement and we have to keep going.

“The spirit is there. You saw it today but we have to win on Saturday.”

United drew 0-0 against Valencia at Old Trafford, extending their winless run under Mourinho to four games, with the full-time whistle greeted by boos from the home fans.

The Red Devils, currently 10th in the Premier League, will be looking to turn their form around on Saturday when they face winless Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
