Ex-Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho set for big move? "It would be fantastic to have him here"

La Liga president Javier Tebas has said Jose Mourinho returning to Real Madrid would be “a great spectacle” following the Portuguese coach’s exit from Manchester United.

Mourinho was sacked by United last month and his temporary replacement, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, picked up his sixth successive victory against Tottenham on Sunday.

Could Jose Mourinho rejoin Real Madrid? Five key things to know…

  1. Mourinho left Madrid in 2013 after winning a La Liga title, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup in three years at the Bernabeu.
  2. He has since been sacked by Chelsea and Manchester United despite initial success at both clubs.
  3. In November, Madrid hired Santiago Solari as their full-time head coach on a contract that runs until the summer of 2021.
  4. However, they are currently fourth in La Liga, 10 points behind leaders Barcelona.
  5. Mourinho had a 71.19% win percentage at Madrid, his best record at any club, and recently said it would be a “great honour” to return to the Bernabeu.

Mourinho grabbed the headlines on a number occasions during the first half of this season, reacting dramatically to both positive and negative results.

He was rarely out of the spotlight during his time in the Spanish capital as well, and Tebas believes Mourinho’s potential return would be a good thing for La Liga.

“It would not be a bad thing for La Liga,” Tebas told Spanish radio, according to Football Espana.

“He is a fantastic coach who has many qualities and it would be a great spectacle, it would be fantastic to have him here, but who knows what club would it be.”

Will Mourinho’s Man Utd failures put Real Madrid off?

Mourinho’s tenure at Old Trafford ended with a final win ratio of 58.3%, the second-worst percentage of his managerial career.

He won the League Cup and the Europa League during his first season in Manchester but failed to pick up a trophy in his second campaign.

This season was a disaster for the most part as United fell way behind the rest of the clubs battling for Champions League places.

However, there is still a feeling Mourinho could manage one more big club. He has reportedly turned down Benfica, which suggests he is waiting for one of Europe’s current leading clubs to come in for him.

It has been suggested club president Florentino Perez would like Mourinho to manage Real Madrid again one day.

Real Madrid face Leganes in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.
