Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has laughed off suggestions that Brazilian midfielder Fabinho could leave the club, having only arrived in England six months ago.
The former Monaco star cost the reds a reported £43.7m in May having become one of Ligue 1’s standout performers in recent years.
However, Fabinho had to wait until October to make his full Premier League debut for the Reds, with Klopp giving him time to adapt to the teams style of play behind the scenes.
That has led to reports that the 25-year-old could soon be on the move again, with PSG, Juventus and AC Milan all linked with the midfielder.
However, speaking to reporters ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Watford this weekend, Klopp insisted that Fabinho is going nowhere.
“He was ever one for the future. Is he settling? Yes. He played and he did well, so it’s all good,” said Klopp.
“Now is coming up the most intense period of the year, of the whole season; it’s unbelievable how many games we have now. That’s good, we knew that before.
Despite a long wait for regular football at Liverpool, Fabinho has played the majority of the Reds’ recent matches, benefitting from a system change to a 4-2-3-1, a formation more similar to the one he was used to with Monaco.
“He used the time to adjust to what we want him to do. That was really good. The last games he played were pretty much all good or better. So, all fine.
“Of course he will not leave. I don’t talk about transfers but if you want to ask, nobody leaves here. That would be completely crazy – he doesn’t want to, it’s only the crazy world out there that people, if they don’t play in the last five games, immediately open kind of a transfer market. We are not involved in that.”
Can Fabinho shine at Liverpool?
Big things were expected of Fabinho after his big money arrival at Anfield just days after the Reds’ Champions League final heartbreak in May.
Having impressed as a right-back in his younger years, previous manager Leonardo Jardim chose to develop Fabinho into a central midfield player, and in his final few years at the club the Brazilian established himself as one of the Europe’s most talented performers in his position.
He was linked with the likes of PSG and Manchester United in recent years, but it was Liverpool who managed to secure his services at the end of last season.
The Brazil international seemed to struggle with the pace and tempo of English football in the first few months of his time with the Reds, but his performances have been more consistent in recent weeks.
Next up for Klopp and his side is an away clash with Watford, before the Reds travel to Paris to take on PSG in the Champions League.
