Jamie Carragher believes Raheem Sterling “deserves everything he gets” from Manchester City in relation to a new contract.
The 23-year-old forward sees his present deal at the Etihad expire next June with reports suggesting City will reward the Londoner handsomely.
However, the amount floated has led to some airing their opinions, but as far as ex-Liverpool teammate Carragher feels he is deserving of every penny.
“We are hearing reports that Sterling is on the verge of signing a big contract and maybe there are eyebrows raised because of the figures involved, but when you look at the stats, he is in the company of players who are earning those figures and people are saying are the best players in the league,” he told Sky Sports.
“Go back to England in the summer and this lad gets far too much criticism. When you look at what this lad is achieving, the move to Manchester City, the pressure and the price-tag. Plus Pep Guardiola, who everyone wants to play for, came in and can get players from Spain and anywhere in the world.
“This young English lad is thriving under maybe the best manager in the world and in the best team in the league. He deserves everything he gets.”

Touted for big things during his youth days at Queens Park Rangers the Jamaica-born winger started to fulfil that potential at Liverpool (2012-15) before moving on to Manchester City.
Since the arrival of Pep Guardiola in the summer of 2016 no player has improved more under the Spanish coach than Sterling, who is now starting to reach world class status.

Only Fernandinho (107) has featured more times under the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach than Sterling (106). Across those matches, he’s registered 39 goals, behind Sergio Aguero (73), and created a further 44 for his teammates, which is level with the mercurial Kevin De Bruyne.
So far this season he’s so far bagged six goals and six assists in 13 official matches for the defending Premier League champions.
