Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic says the players “hide” from Jose Mourinho when they lose.
The Serbian midfielder has revealed that the players avoid the United boss on the training ground following a defeat while publicly backing him to turn around United’s poor start to the season.
The Red Devils sit seventh in the Premier League after 11 games, nine points behind current table toppers Manchester City.
The Portuguese boss has been under intense scrutiny following his side’s poor start to the campaign, despite securing back-to-back wins after beating Everton and Bournemouth at the weekend.
United have suffered a poor start to the 2018/19 campaign keeping just one clean-sheet so far while conceding 18 goals. This time last season the Red Devils already had eight clean-sheets and had only shipped five goals.
They are showing fight, however, as no team has come from behind to win more points than United’s seven in the Premier League this season.
They face a massive game tomorrow night against Juventus in the Champions League and midfielder, Matic, knows how determined Mourinho is to win.
“He does have a lot of pressure because everyone expects him only to win. When we don’t win everyone is waiting to see his reaction. He likes to win and when we don’t win we are hiding from him at the training ground,” the 30-year-old told Sky Sports.
“He’s happy when he’s winning but when we lose, like every manager, he wants us to do better. He tries to find a way to be winning as soon as possible.”
Despite his fierce demeanour the Serbian was quick to praise Mourinho’s character.
“He’s a great person,” Matic added. “He’s a different man outside the job and off the pitch.
“One thing is for sure that since he’s been in the Premier League he’s changed a lot in the league. The Premier League has become more interesting with him.”

There have been reports in the media of dressing room unrest and of rifts between the manager and some of his players, an accusation the 30-year-old denies.
“We are all united. When we win we are all together and when we lose we are all together.
“It’s not true what the media are writing. We are working hard and we will continue like this.
“The Manchester United name obligates us to be professionals and try to turn the situation as soon as possible and this is exactly what we are doing.”
It is a big week for United as they face Juventus on Wednesday evening in Group H of the Champions League in Turin before facing Premier League leaders and local rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
