West Ham interest in Samir Nasri confirmed by Manuel Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed West Ham United are interested in signing free agent Samir Nasri in January.

Nasri has been without a club since leaving Antalyaspor in January this year. He is currently serving a drug ban that ends in December.

The 31-year-old made a combined 296 appearances for Arsenal and Manchester City between 2008-2016 before leaving England.

And Pellegrini has revealed Nasri will be offered a deal by West Ham if he is fit enough.

Nasri to West Ham: 5 things you need to know…

1. Nasri won the Premier League with Manchester City in 2013/14 when Pellegrini was in charge.

2. The Frenchman fell out of favour at the Etihad under Pep Guardiola and joined Sevilla on loan for the 2016/17 season.

3. He then signed a two-year deal with Antalyaspor in the summer of 2017, only to terminate his contract after just five months in Turkey.

4. A month after leaving Antalyaspor, Nasri received a six-month drug ban that was eventually extended until December this year.

5. Reports claimed Nasri has been training with West Ham ahead of a potential short-term deal, which Pellegrini has now confirmed.

“Samir Nasri is working here with us. It’s a long time that he had his ban but we are giving him a hand to return to football,” Pellegrini said, according to the Independent.

“I hope that from now until the end of the year he will be fit, and if that is the case we will try to keep him here at West Ham.”

Can Nasri rediscover his Arsenal and Man City form?

Nasri was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year in 2010/11 following a stellar season for Arsenal in which he scored 10 goals in 30 appearances.

That led to interest from Manchester City, who he joined in the summer of 2011. Nasri went on to win two Premier League titles and a League Cup at the Etihad.

Despite shining sporadically for Sevilla and Antalyaspor, the attacking midfielder has struggled to replicate his best form since leaving England.

Whether Pellegrini is planning to give Nasri regular minutes or use him more as a backup option remains to be seen.

Andriy Yarmolenko’s long-term injury could see Nasri given a chance on the right of a front three for the Hammers.
