Antonio Rudiger considers Chelsea’s defeat to Leicester City a disaster after Jamie Vardy punished the Blues at home on Saturday.
Chelsea controlled much of the proceedings, as they dominated Leicester in every part of the pitch for most of the game, but the Blues were not incisive enough going forward and lacked a clinical edge in front of goal.
Eden Hazard was by far the Blues brightest spark and the game might have panned out much differently had the Belgium international kept his shot down when he found himself one-on-one with Kasper Schmeichel in the first half – his shot smashing off the post.
Maurizio Sarri’s men threatened to break the Foxes down all afternoon, but outstanding performances from Ben Chilwell, Wes Morgan and Ricardo pereira ensured the Blues seldom created any real danger. The Blues paid for their wastefulness after the break when Vardy finished off a superb move from the Foxes.

Chelsea could not draw level and after the game Rudiger, who did well for most of the match, lamented his side’s “stupid” performance and says that winning the title is out of the question if they can’t defeat teams like Leicester.
“It’s a disaster. We don’t talk about the title any more,” Rudiger told reporters (via the Express). “If we can’t win these games, we can’t compete. We only talk now about top four. Maybe it’s a lack of mentality. Stupid.”
Maurizio Sarri also felt that Chelsea could’ve done better: “We played well for 55 minutes,” Sarri said. “I think that, of course, in some situations we were unlucky but I think that we could have done something better. After the goal the reaction was not the right reaction.
“We reacted a little shocked and with mental confusion. We had to only keep playing like we did before the goal, there was time to recover.”
Chelsea’s defeat at Stamford Bridge sees them fall 11 points behind Liverpool at the top of the table and they missed an opportunity to leap frog London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in third place.
Chelsea travel to Watford and then to Crystal Palace over the festive period.
