Guardiola explains Man City call that ruined the day of nearly 2,000,000 people

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed he was left with no choice but to omit Sergio Aguero from their Premier League game against Bournemouth.

The 30-year-old Argentine marksman has been in scintillating form of late, but he wasn’t completely fit to face Eddie Howe’s men, with his place in Guardiola’s starting eleven going to Brazilian youngster Gabriel Jesus.

Aguero’s form. Five things you need to know…

  1. Sergio Aguero is Manchester City’s all-time top scorer having bagged 211 goals across 309 matches since joining from Atlético Madrid in 2011.
  2. His last-minute winner against QPR, on the final day of 2011/12 season, earned City their first championship in 44 years.
  3. Since the arrival of Pep Guardiola he’s registered 75 goals in 101 appearances.
  4. So far this season he’s scored eight goals across 13 league appearances which makes him the Premier League’s current top scorer alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
  5. His prolific nature has made him the most selected player (53.6%) in the Premier League’s official fantasy football game.

Aguero played for 80 minutes in City’s empathic 4-0 win at West Ham after the recent international period, before starting and scoring in their 2-2 Champions League draw at Lyon, a game in which he scored the English champions second equaliser.

However, despite finishing the game, Aguero wasn’t fully 100% and Guardiola looking ahead of the club’s busy festive schedule felt he could use the Bournemouth game to give him a well-earned rest.

“He’s muscular disturbing, he’s not completely fit, a little bit risky,” he told reporters.

“The doctors and physios tell me it would be a risk if he plays and we don’t want to take that risk.”

Guardiola angers the FPL community

City fans weren’t the only group lamenting Aguero’s absence. Such has been his incredible form this season, eight goals and six assists, the Argentina international is the most selected player in the Premier League’s official fantasy football game.

To date no fewer than 53.6% of the total players have ‘Kun’ in their squad with no fewer than 1,796,595 of them captaning him ahead of Bournemouth’s visit.

And for good reason. All but one those eight strikes to his name have come at the Etihad Stadium including a hat-trick against Huddersfield in gameweek two.

So, to say his “managers” were unhappy with Guardiola is an understatement, many took to social media to air their frustrations at the two-time European Cup winning coach.
