PSG No.10 publicly hints to Man City star that he plans to prove his "greatness" in the Premier League

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has not ruled out a future move to the Premier League after being quizzed by Benjamin Mendy.

The Manchester City left-back is currently sidelined through a knee injury but that did not stop him challenging one of world football’s most gifted forwards.

Could Neymar make a move to the Premier League? Five key things to know…

  1. Neymar joined Barcelona from Brazilian side Santos in 2013, with the Spanish side beating off interest from the Premier League.
  2. The Brazilian spent four years with Barcelona, becoming part of one of the best attacking trios in Europe alongside Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
  3. But Neymar would leave the club last summer for PSG, reportedly to get out of Messi’s shadow.
  4. And, despite doing well at PSG, the Brazilian is once again being linked with a move away and has not ruled out the Premier League as a potential destination.
  5. Neymar has scored 43 goals in 48 games for PSG across all competitions so far, including 15 in 18 already this season.

Neymar, 26, has been constantly linked with a move to English soil since his formative years with Santos, and despite a record move to the French capital, those rumours have continued to intensify each window.

The January window is fast approaching, and clubs will once more be eyeing up reinforcements, none more so than City, whose eyes would have lit up when Neymar opened the door on a potential move.

In a recent ‘Ask Neymar’ video posted on his YouTube channel, the star received a number of questions from footballing greats, both old and current, with Mendy enquiring if he would ever consider a move to the English top-flight.

Mendy said: “Neymar Jnr, answer me in French. Do you think you’ll one day play in the Premier League?”

To which the former Barcelona forward replied: “It’s a big competition, one of the greatest in the world.

“We don’t know what will happen tomorrow but I believe that every great player, at least one day, has to play in the Premier League.

“If you’re playing there, I hope you can keep enjoying the Premier League, because you deserve only the best.”

Neymar: Premier League rumours

The current PSG talisman, and £200m-rated forward, was initially rumoured to be joining West Ham United in 2010, with the east London club making an audacious £12m bid to land the Brazilian teenager.

The transfer, of course, failed to transpire as Santos rejected the bid, and the Sao Paulo native would soon relocate to Catalonia just three years later, joining European champions Barcelona.

He clinched a Champions League title during his stint at the Camp Nou and has since transferred to the Parc des Princes for a world-record fee in 2017, but that has not put a stop to the speculation.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Neymar in the past, as Jose Mourinho was reportedly willing to fork out £350m for his services at the end of last season.

Rivals City have also been consistently tipped to make a bid for the forward, with Neymar previously expressing his desire to work under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola.

Chelsea are another who were rumoured to be close to landing Neymar in 2010 after club chairman Roman Abramovich reportedly held a meeting with the player’s agent, but that transfer did not come to fruition.
