28 goals in 71 games: Winger determined not to let Spurs links distract him

Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen has dismissed “rumours” linking him with a move away from the club.

Bowen has been in sensational form since Hull suffered relegation to the Championship in 2017, scoring 28 goals in 80 appearances since the start of last season, which is said to have alerted a host of Premier League clubs.

Who is Jarrod Bowen? Five key things to know…

  • Age: 22 (20/12/1996)
  • Position: Attacking midfielder/forward
  • Total senior appearances: 88
  • Key stat: Bowen has scored seven goals in his last five league games.
  • Did you know? Bowen played without pay toward the end of his time with the now-defunct Hereford United.

Bowen has netted 13 league goals this seasons and managed to clinch the EFL Championship Player of the Month for December, leading to links with clubs such as Everton and Spurs.

However, the 22-year-old has dismissed this talk as pure “rumour”, saying that he has heard nothing from his agent about a potential deal.

“There is always going to be interest in every single player when you play well, but I’ve got agents that represent me and take care of that and they didn’t say anything to me,” Bowen told Sky Sports.

“It is nice to see your name linked to some teams, but I am a Hull City player and as far as I’m aware it is just rumours.”

Bowen joined Hull City in 2014 after his previous club Hereford were expelled from the Football Conference.

The winger made his Tigers debut in August of that year but failed to score a single goal in nine appearances during his maiden campaign.

Hull were relegated to English football’s second tier that season, where Bowen has since flourished, scoring 28 goals for the club. He is one Championship strike away from his 14-goal tally of last season, with 19 fixtures left to go.

What has Pochettino said about Bowen?

Just like Bowen, Mauricio Pochettino has also ruled out a move from Spurs for the winger, with the Argentine claiming he “hadn’t heard of him” before the rumours started to surface.

“The first time I heard [about] him was yesterday or before yesterday,” Pochettino told reporters prior to Tottenham’s 7-0 FA Cup win over Tranmere Rovers earlier this month.

“I heard for the first time yesterday this name. It’s like many names that appear in the media – rumours.

“There’s many interested in this business. How many players are today in the media that are related with Tottenham, and have been in the past?

“Be careful because hundreds of players were related with the club and then never happened. I think my answer is so clear.”

Spurs travel to Fulham on Sunday in their next game.
