Bad news for Chelsea? Big-name La Liga star asked about January transfer

Real Madrid midfielder Isco has ruled out a departure from Real Madrid this month amid speculation linking him with Chelsea and Juventus.

The 26-year-old Spain international has struggled for playing time under Los Blancos manager Santiago Solari, thus fueling speculation he could depart.

What happened between Isco and Solari? Five things to know…

  1. Julen Lopetegui was sacked after just suffered four defeats in five games.
  2. Isco featured in 10 of Lopetegui’s 14 matches in charge, scoring twice and providing one assist.
  3. But since former Real midfielder turned coach Santiago Solari replaced him, Isco has started just twice.
  4. Solari dropped Isco from the squad altogether for “sporting reasons” away to Roma in the Champions League.
  5. It was reported Isco had refused to shake Solari’s hand after the previous game, a 3-0 defeat to Eibar.

Despite no shortage of interest in the former Malaga man – reports link him with Chelsea and Juventus, where he would reunite with former Real teammate Cristiano Ronaldo – Isco does not see himself leaving the Spanish capital anytime soon.

“I am not remotely thinking about leaving Real Madrid in the January transfer window, as I am very happy here,” he told Deportes Cuatro.

“My objective is to continue winning many more titles with Real Madrid.”

Isco’s time in Madrid

Signed in July 2013 following an impressive tenure at Málaga, the former ‘Golden Boy’ would quickly become a regular fixture under then manager Carlo Ancelotti.

To date, the Benalmádena-born footballer has made no fewer than 258 appearances for Los Blancos, winning one league title and four European Cups.

Along the way, he has registered 46 goals and created a further 53 for his teammates. Isco’s present deal, signed in September 2017, ends on June 2022.

Isco’s only starts for Solari came in their 0-3 Champions League home defeat to CSKA Moscow and their 6-1 Copa del Rey home win over UD Melilla, a game in which he wore the captain’s armband.

The latter came six days after the CSKA debacle. Isco, shown to be visibly upset with the Real fans’ jeering, refused to wear the armband against CSKA, though it was later claimed he was fulfilling a promise to teammate Dani Carvajal.
