Everton boss Marco Silva denies move for a third Barcelona player

Everton manager Marco Silva has denied rumours his side are looking to sign Barcelona winger Malcom in January.

The Brazilian only joined Barcelona in the summer but has struggled to break into the first team with just nine appearances all season.

Will Malcom leave Barcelona in January? Five key things to know…

  1. Malcom joined Barcelona last summer for £40m, having initially been set to sign for Roma.
  2. But the Brazilian’s time in Spain has not gone according to plan, with Malcom yet to make an impact.
  3. As a result, he is already being linked with a move away from the Nou Camp, with Everton one of the parties mentioned.
  4. However, Toffees boss Marco Silva has insisted his team is not interested in signing Malcom.
  5. Malcom has played just 97 minutes for Barcelona in La Liga this season.

Everton have already signed Lucas Digne and Andre Silva (on loan) from Barcelona this season, and reports have claimed the Toffees will look to the Nou Camp for another addition in January.

However, Silva was quick to play down these reports. When asked about the rumours, Silva simply said (via Goal): “No, no. Nothing.”

Silva’s side have not had the best season so far, currently sitting 11th in the Premier League with eight defeats from 21 games. But despite this, the Spaniard has insisted he is not looking to make any changes in the January transfer window – incoming or outgoing.

He added: “I understand the moment. Now is the moment these rumours come to the table. But [there is] nothing new.

“We don’t put more to be loaned or whatever. I want them focused on our squad and to be ready to play.

“Until now, the decisions I already take, you know what they are. Even, like you know, the last moments were really busy for us. The time we had between [games] was to prepare for the next.”

Malcom’s torrid Barcelona spell so far

Malcom’s £40m move from Bordeaux to Barcelona make a lot of headlines in the summer as the Brazilian had initially been announced as signing for Serie A club Roma, before changing his mind.

The winger’s agent called the snub “revenge” for the way Roma were dealing with the deal, but the Italian side may have been saved a bad move.

Malcom is yet to start a La Liga game for Barcelona this season, with his five appearances all coming from the bench, amassing just 97 minutes.

Four more appearances have come in cup competitions, with Malcom scoring once in the Copa del Rey and Champions League.

The Brazilian is also reportedly unhappy at the club with his agent, Junior Minguella, saying in October: “Every player needs a period of adaptation and minutes on the pitch to prove their worth.

“He hasn’t had them yet, but he’ll prove his worth when he does play. He doesn’t like the situation, but he’s focused and very motivated.”
