Liverpool reportedly have bid rejected for £105m-rated teenager

Liverpool have failed to land Portuguese sensation Joao Felix after making a £61m bid to Benfica, according to reports.

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha, reported that the Reds made a move for the 19-year-old this month. But the fee offered, which would have been their third-most-expensive, was a whopping £44m under Benfica’s asking price.

Will Liverpool sign Joao Felix? Four key things to know…

  1. Joao Felix is enjoying his debut season with the Benfica first team having joined the club in 2015.
  2. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has scored four goals in nine league games so far this season, catching the eye of Europe’s top clubs.
  3. Felix had been linked with a move to West Ham United last summer, reports which forced Benfica to dismiss the claims.
  4. And, reports have once again emerged, claiming Liverpool have had a £61m for Felix bid rejected by Benfica.

Felix, who has been valued at £105m by the Primeira Liga side, has also courted interest from other elite sides in Europe including Manchester City, Barcelona, Monaco and Manchester United.

The Portugal U21 star has not made a senior appearance for his country yet, but Portugal manager Fernando Santos is planning to call him up to the first team.

The attacking midfielder has been sensational this campaign, having a hand in 14 goals for Benfica and will be difficult to sign after only just penning a new deal with the club.

Where is Felix likely to end up?

The youngster is a talented prospect and has only just signed a new deal with the Portuguese outfit with a £105m release clause written into the fine print. So, prizing him away from the Estádio da Luz will be an expensive affair for anyone who wishes to acquire his services.

Liverpool have already had their bid rejected for the next “Cristiano Ronaldo” and a bidding war may open between them and their fierce rivals in Manchester.

Although United have been reported to be interested in the teenager their caretaker manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has talked down any moves for new players in January and it remains unknown if the Norwegian will stay at the club at the end of the season, thus United’s priorities in the market could change.

Man City are also potential suitors, but with the Citizens potentially facing a transfer ban and a one-year suspension from the Champions League, the 19-year-old might look elsewhere for high-profile football should he leave Benfica.
