Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has confirmed his retirement from professional football at the age of just 27.
Frimpong came through Arsenal’s academy but struggled to break into the Gunners’ first team as a result of serious injury problems, before leaving in 2014.
Frimpong retires from professional: Four key things to know…
- Emmanuel Frimpong came through the Arsenal academy but made just six appearances for the first team.
- The midfielder went on to represent various teams across Europe, most recently Cypriot side Ermis Aradippou.
- But the Ghanaian international has not played since 2017 due to on-going injury problems.
- And Frimpong has now announced his retirement from football, aged just 27.
After a spell at Barnsley, the one-time Ghanaian international went on to represent Ufa and Arsenal Tula in the Russian Premier League being brief spells with Swedish side AFC Eskilstuna and Cypriot Ermis Aradippou.
Frimpong last played for Ermis in November 2017 before yet another serious knee injury looked to be cutting his career short.
And the 27-year-old has now confirmed his retirement, with a message on his official Twitter account.
He said: “It is with great sadness I have decided to retire from professional football.
“I have had problems with my knee for the last five years or so and have got back to playing at a professional level.
“But since November 2017 I haven’t been in action as I had a tear in my knee ligament.
