Tottenham and Liverpool will face off in the Premier League this weekend in a fixture that has played host to plenty of iconic footballers in recent years.
Both clubs are in better shape now than they have been for a while, with the likes of Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah breaking all sorts of records for their respective teams.
But what about the players who have featured for both Spurs and Liverpool? And at which club did those players taste more success?
We’ve gone through them below – including only those whose careers at both clubs ended after the year 2000 – and judged whether Tottenham or Liverpool got the best out of them.
Jamie Redknapp
Time at Tottenham: 2002 to 2005 (49 appearances)
Time at Liverpool: 1991 to 2002 (309 appearances)

Trophies at Liverpool: League Cup 1994/95; FA Charity Shield 2001; UEFA Super Cup 2001
Jamie Redknapp’s career peaked during the late 1990s when he became captain of Liverpool as a result of his impressive contributions in midfield. He scored 10 goals across all competitions in 1998/99, but a succession of injuries prevented him from kicking on.
His time at Liverpool soon began to peter out and the midfielder didn’t make a single appearance in the Merseysiders’ trophy-laden 2000/01 campaign because of a serious knee injury. Redknapp eventually joined Tottenham but never really rediscovered his best form, making no more than 17 appearances in any of his three seasons at White Hart Lane.

Christian Ziege
Time at Tottenham: 2001 to 2004 (55 appearances)
Time at Liverpool: 2000 to 2001 (32 appearances)

Trophies at Liverpool: League Cup 2000/01
Injuries saw Christian Ziege only involved in one of Liverpool’s three trophy wins in 2000/01. But the League Cup success was a trophy nonetheless, more than the left-back managed during his three years at Tottenham.
Ziege scored a penalty in the 2001 League Cup final shootout. The following season, he was on the scoresheet in another League Cup final, this time for Spurs, but ended up on the losing side. His injuries were even worse in London and the German eventually returned to the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Peter Crouch
Time at Tottenham: 2009 to 2011 (93 appearances)
Time at Liverpool: 2005 to 2008 (134 appearances)
Trophies at Tottenham: None
Trophies at Liverpool: FA Cup 2005/06; FA Community Shield 2006
Tottenham fans will have plenty of fond memories of Crouch: the goal against Manchester City that saw Spurs qualify for the Champions League; strikes against both Inter and AC Milan in Europe’s elite competition; his effective partnership with Rafael Van der Vaart up front.
However, in a recent interview with the Liverpool Echo, Crouch himself said: “[Liverpool] was the club where I probably had the best time of my career. I was playing the best football I ever played, I was playing for England and banging them in, and scoring a few for Liverpool as well.”
Looking at his trophy records for Tottenham and Liverpool, he’s probably right.

Robbie Keane
Time at Tottenham: 2002 to 2008 AND 2009 to 2011 (306 appearances)
Time at Liverpool: 2008 to 2009 (28 appearances)

Robbie Keane was supposed to be the final piece in the jigsaw for Liverpool when he arrived at Anfield from Spurs in 2008, but his time on Merseyside was uninspiring to say the least. He scored seven goals before returning to Tottenham after just six months.
The former Republic of Ireland international wasn’t the same player, but in fairness it was difficult to match his brilliant first stint at Spurs, during which he lifted his only trophy at an English club. Keane’s masterful partnership with Dimitar Berbatov and his apparent love of the club means he is still a fan favourite today.

Brad Friedel
Time at Tottenham: 2011 to 2015 (67 appearances)
Time at Liverpool: 1997 to 2000 (31 appearances)
Trophies at Tottenham: None
Trophies at Liverpool: None
David James and Sander Westerveld prevented Brad Friedel from making more than 31 appearances during his three years at Anfield, and a move to Blackburn Rovers eventually materialised. Some fine performances for Blackburn and Aston Villa eventually saw Harry Redknapp snap him up for Spurs at the age of 40.
The American was a reliable number one for a time. But while his shot-stopping was mostly faultless, Friedel’s age meant he was slow off his line and Tottenham decided to move for Hugo Lloris. Friedel remained a capable back-up and took an ambassadorial role at the club upon his retirement, before moving into management back in the US.

Paul Konchesky
Time at Tottenham: 2003 (15 appearances)
Time at Liverpool: 2010 to 2011 (18 appearances)
Trophies at Tottenham: None

Paul Konchesky didn’t last long at either club, but an impressive enough loan spell at Spurs in 2003 saw a permanent deal look like a possibility. The move never happened, though, and he had spells at West Ham and Fulham before Roy Hodgson took Konchesky with him to Liverpool.
That turned out to be disastrous for manager and player. Clearly out of his depth, Konchesky left for Nottingham Forest on loan in the January transfer window of his only season at Anfield.

Danny Murphy
Time at Tottenham: 2006 to 2007 (29 appearances)
Time at Liverpool: 1997 to 2004 (246 appearances)

Danny Murphy failed to nail down a regular spot at Tottenham despite his career appearing to be on the up again after moving to north London from Charlton, where he had impressed following a seven-year stay with Liverpool.
Without really standing out, Murphy was a dependable member of the squad throughout his Liverpool career, playing a part in a number of trophy wins – something he didn’t replicate at Spurs. A reported falling out with manager Martin Jol didn’t help matters, and the midfielder left after just two seasons.

Steven Caulker
Time at Tottenham: 2009 to 2013 (29 appearances)
Time at Liverpool: 2016 (4 appearances)

Trophies at Liverpool: None
When Steven Caulker first broke into Tottenham’s first-team picture, expectations sky-rocketed. The centre-back was mature beyond his years, looking like a huge prospect for both club and country – he even scored in his only appearance for England.
But the fact he has featured just once for the Three Lions is telling. Caulker’s career went downhill after leaving Spurs for QPR. A bizarre loan move to Liverpool came around in 2016, where he was used as a makeshift striker. The mind still boggles to this day.
