Arsenal manager Unai Emery insists that he did not prevent Joachim Low from meeting Mesut Ozil at the club’s training ground.
Rumours have circulated that Emery denied the Germany manager entry to the Gunners’ training complex when he arrived to meet with midfielder Ozil who announced his retirement from international duty following the nation’s exit from the World Cup.
Ozil cited the racism directed at his Turkish heritage as the reason for his early retirement, and Emery, who took over the reigns from long-time Gunners boss Arsene Wenger denied that he didn’t allow Low to visit Ozil.
“It’s not true that I didn’t let Mesut meet with Low,” Emery said (via Goal).
“I had no problem in our situation in the training ground. It’s not true.”
Reports of a rift opening up between the German midfielder and Emery have been ongoing since the beginning of the season, with Ozil believed to have stormed out of a training session, though Emery has since denied those claims, insisting he has a strong relationship with his talisman.
The alleged bust-up occurred back in August when Ozil was left out of Arsenal’s 3-1 victory against West Ham, which fuelled growing reports of conflict existing between the pair. However, Emery insisted that illness prevented Ozil from appearing in that fixture.
Arsenal head to west London on Sunday to face Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League.
