Moyes: Liverpool’s current Premier League team is not their best ever

Liverpool’s current side is not their best to have graced the Premier League, according to former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are currently sitting pretty atop of the Premier League table having won all six games played so far this campaign.

Last season, Liverpool reached the final of the Champions League – only to lose out 3-1 to holders Real Madrid – and saw their front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane establish themselves as arguably the strongest attacking trio in European football.

However, former Toffees boss Moyes has insisted that although this squad is undoubtedly talented, they are not the best Liverpool side of the Premier League era.

Referring back to his days with the blue half of Merseyside, Moyes discussed which Reds side was the best he ever faced as a Premier League manager.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday, Moyes said: “I think they’ve got a really good team but I look back at the teams when I played against Liverpool over the years, Liverpool had great teams.

“When it was [Xabi] Alonso, [Javier] Mascherano, [Steven] Gerrard and [Fernando] Torres was upfront.

“Liverpool had great teams and this is a good Liverpool team as well.

“I don’t know if it’s quite as good as that team at that time but I think they’re playing a good style and I think they’ve got forward players who are exceptional and because of that it makes them a real threat.”

Klopp’s side will look to continue their perfect start to the 2018/19 campaign when they face Chelsea this weekend, following their League Cup clash with the Blues on Wednesday.

A win for Liverpool will see them continue in the right direction as they plan on getting their hands on the Premier League title, currently held by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side.
