Manchester United may have to sell Alexis Sanchez at the end of the season if his poor form doesn’t improve, according to former Arsenal striker Ian Wright.
Sanchez joined the Old Trafford club from Premier League rivals Arsenal back in January, on the last day of the transfer window, in a famous move that saw playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan make the move in the opposite direction.
After a decent start to life in Manchester, Sanchez’s form has rapidly collapsed and his obvious attacking prowess is yet to be seen on a consistent basis by the United faithful.
Failing to start this season with any force, questions are being asked regarding his place in manager Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven, with the United boss boasting an impressive array of attacking talent to revert to if and when needed.
Former Gunners striker Wright has stipulated that the club may be forced to get rid of Sanchez at the end of the season if his form continues to falter, due to the high financial implications of the Chilean’s deal – especially his luxurious salary.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Wright said: “If I was a businessman, I’d see how it goes for the rest of the season then look to offload. It’s because of the wages he’s on.”
“For me, right now, if United had paid money for him they’d be thinking: ‘How are we going to get that back?’
“Sanchez will have to take a hit on his weekly wage [if he joins another club]. Nobody will pay a fee for him, because of the way he’s playing.
“He does not warrant a place in the team when you have Martial and Marcus Rashford waiting to play.
“You look at him at United: he’s not shackled, he’s got freedom. His form will have to kick in to justify a place.”

Manchester United’s next fixture is against Frank Lampard’s Derby County this evening at Old Trafford in the Football League Cup.
Following that, the Red Devils face West Ham United away in the Premier League on Saturday and can extend their unbeaten league run to four games.
