Marko Arnautovic must improve at West Ham United before making his dream move to a big club says Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Arnautovic had achieved scored a modest amount of goals for the Hammers last season, bagging 11 in 31 games; this campaign he’s already netted four goals in six games.
Despite the quality the Austria international has show at the beginning of the Hammers’ campaign, Pellegrini says that the striker needs to continue his form for the entire season.
“He had a very good second half of last season, now Marko needs to have a complete season,” Pellegrini told the Independent.
“He is a top player and maybe he can reach a higher target than he has done at the moment.”
Pellegrini added that because he hasn’t played consistently well over a complete season the timing for Arnautovic to head to an elite side is not right.
“Because of that I don’t think it is a good idea to go immediately to a big team because he would maybe not start every game like he does here. With his performances I am absolutely sure he will have a very good season.
“Maybe we will see what will happen in the future but right now his mind and his commitment is with West Ham.”
Arnautovic seems to have taken his manager’s words seriously, as he got on the score sheet again on Saturday against Manchester United in the Premier League, scoring West Ham’s third goal of the afternoon.
West Ham’s 3-1 victory over United on Saturday afternoon was only their second in the league this season, but fans will hope they can build from this result as they head into a less intense run of fixtures.
The Hammers will be back in action in the league against Brighton next Friday.
