Eden Hazard: I knocked Liverpool out of Carabao Cup for N’Golo Kante

Eden Hazard says he scored the winner in Chelsea‘s 2-1 win over Liverpool in the League Cup to save N’Golo Kante from taking a penalty.

Hazard’s spectacular solo effort in the 85th minute sent his side into the next round of the tournament after the Blues went behind after the break.

The Belgium international says he was motivated to score the goal by Kante who told him he wanted to avoid taking a penalty.

“I spoke with N’Golo on the bench and he told me he didn’t want to take a penalty, so the only solution was to score!” Hazard said (via Goal).

Hazard added that his match-winning effort is one of the best strikes of his career.

He continued: “I have scored some goals like that! Not all the time.

“It is on the top of the list, top three. I remember around two years ago, the one against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. That one was nice.

“This one also is one of the best, especially when you score against a big team and win the game. That’s the most important thing.”

Hazard also believes his goal will spur his side on in the second, and more significant, part of their double-header with Liverpool when they face them again in the Premier League on Saturday.

“I think this game was more to have the confidence in three days time,” Hazard added.

“We won so in the league we will change some players, they will change some players but we want to win again. Especially in front of our fans at Stamford Bridge. It is going to be a good day for us, I hope.”

Chelsea host Liverpool in the late evening kick-off on Saturday. A win could take the Blues to the top of the table, but it is perhaps more likely that Manchester City will take the top spot in that scenario as they’re expected to defeat Brighton at home.
