Real Madrid confirm Isco has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis

Real Madrid midfielder Isco underwent successful surgery on Tuesday after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis, the Spanish club has confirmed.

Isco played 79 minutes of Madrid’s 1-0 home victory over Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday. Prior to that, he scored the first goal in last week’s Champions League opener, a 3-0 win against AS Roma at the Bernabeu.

However, Madrid announced on Tuesday that the Spain international had been diagnosed with acute appendicitis and would be swiftly operated on.

A statement read: “After the tests carried out today on our player Isco, he has been diagnosed with acute appendicitis. The player will receive treatment in the coming hours.”

Later on Tuesday, Madrid revealed the surgery had been successful.

“Our player Isco was operated on successfully for acute appendicitis at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital,” the second statement read. “The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Real Madrid medical services. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

No timeframe has been put on Isco’s return, but Sky Sports claim Isco will be unavailable for upcoming games including Wednesday’s meeting with Sevilla in La Liga and Saturday’s Madrid derby against Atletico.

Isco has scored 43 goals in 247 appearances across all competitions for Madrid since arriving from Malaga in the summer of 2013, winning 13 major honours along the way.

The 26-year-old is also a regular for Spain having played 34 times for his country, scoring 12 goals.

Los Blancos will want Isco to be fit again in time for the first El Clasico of the season against Barcelona on October 28.
