“He had a mobility scooter” – How Steven Gerrard’s fancy dress fooled Liverpool teammates

Former England international Peter Crouch has revealed how Steven Gerrard fooled his Liverpool team-mates into believing he was an old man at a fancy dress party.

The Stoke City forward, who played for Liverpool for three seasons and made 134 appearances across all competitions, spoke on his latest BBC Radio 5 Live podcast about how the former Liverpool captain had him and his teammate all fooled at Christmas party.

Crouch recalled how the Rangers manager went to extreme lengths to disguise himself as an elderly gentleman, which included a prosthetic mask and a mobility scooter.

“I remember Stevie came as an old man that was a beauty because he had a prosthetic mask and he had a mobility scooter,” Crouch said. “He looked like an old man. He had a pipe, flat cap on.

“There was paparazzi, photographers outside and everyone was getting photographed coming in. I always remember it, Stevie just buzzed straight in. They genuinely thought it was just an old man going for a pint.

“It was so funny. He just buzzed down, said ‘excuse me, lads’ and the fellas just parted and helped him in.”

Gerrard will have no desire to hide his face at the moment after a promising start to his maiden campaign in football management.

Rangers currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership with six games played, while rivals Celtic have slipped to the middle of the table.

Gerrard’s side thumped Ayr United 4-0 on Wednesday in the Scottish League Cup and will head to Livingston on Sunday.
