Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has warned Benjamin Mendy about his late arrival to a treatment session.
Mendy has been mostly missing from Man City’s squad since arriving at the Etihad from Monaco for £52 million last year. He spent seven months out injured after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The World Cup-winning full-back is now nursing a foot injury and will miss City’s home clash against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Mendy has not been overly enthusiastic about rehabilitating his latest injury and turned up late to a treatment session last Sunday, to the apparent chagrin of his manager.
“He should be here. He knows it. I spoke with him,” said Guardiola.
Other City players have also arrived late recently due to congestion in central Manchester, something Guardiola has come to understand given their family commitments too.
“That happens sometimes, in the last period a lot have arrived late because of the traffic,” he added.
“Manchester is under construction, the players arrive late. They have to drop their kids at school.”
Guardiola confirmed that Mendy will come back into the starting XI only when he has recovered, but gave no hints as to when that would to be.
“I expect him back when he’s fit. Now he’s injured, it’s not a problem with his physical condition,” he said.
“He’s injured and when he’s OK he’s coming back and when he decides to play he’s going to play.”
