Eden Hazard: I wanted to leave Chelsea after the World Cup

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has admitted he wanted to leave the club for a dream move to Spain following the World Cup.

Hazard was one of the best players at the tournament as he helped Belgium finish third in Russia, losing only to eventual winners France.

The Belgian had long been linked with a move to Real Madrid but remained at Chelsea once the transfer windows closed, not joining his compatriot Thibaut Courtois in swapping the Blues for Los Blancos.

But, despite insisting he is happy to stay at Chelsea, Hazard has revealed he was looked to leave the club in the summer.

“I will tell you the truth, after the World Cup I wanted to leave, because my dream is to play in Spain,” he told BT Sport.

“But then I talk with the board here, with the manager, and I say OK you don’t want me to leave, I can stay no problem. I’m happy here, to stay I think was the right decision.”

Hazard has started the season brilliant for Chelsea, scoring six goals in seven goals so far, including five in the Premier League.

The Belgian currently has just two years remaining on his contract at Chelsea, but Hazard has not ruled out signing an extension.

“I’m happy here, the new manager has come in and we’re enjoying playing with him,” he added.

“So I think to stay was the right decision. Now I am with Chelsea.

“I have two years left on my contract. I can sign a new deal, maybe not, I don’t know.

“The fans – they love me. I like the club and I like the city. And my team-mates, I think they love me also!

“So for me it is easy to stay. But like I say, if I leave or if I stay, I will be happy.

“This club is now part of my life. We will see.”
