Manchester United look unstable as a club according to former midfielder Paul Scholes.
The Red Devils lost 3-1 to West Ham United on Saturday to cap off a poor week which had seen them knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Derby County.
Jose Mourinho’s relationship with Paul Pogba was also thrown into doubt once again following the defeat, with television cameras capturing a frosty moment between the pair in training.
And Scholes believes there is a war going on across all levels at the club.
“At this minute, I think this club seems to be in a bit of a mess,” Scholes told BT Sport during their coverage of the match.
“Whether it’s from above Mourinho, we know he didn’t get the players he wanted in the summer. He’s been given a lot of money already to spend on players, [Victor] Lindelof and [Eric] Bailly especially who don’t seem to be good enough. It’s early days for people like Fred, you do have to give him time.
“It just seems like a war throughout the club if it’s from Ed Woodward to Mourinho, and then Mourinho to the players. The place just looks unstable.”
During his post-match interview with BT Sport, Mourinho commented on the performance of West Ham centre-back Issa Diop, hailing the Hammers’ scouting network at the same time for the find.
But former club defender Rio Ferdinand believes this was a sly dig at the United hierarchy.
“The stability of the club is key,” Ferdinand added. “For any football club you need stability from top to bottom.
“Here there seems to be mini wars going on in the changing room, probably above that as well.
“Even talking about the scouting networks that found the young centre-half for West Ham, Diop, that’s a slight dig.
“There are many wars within the camp, that has to be ironed out. There has to be someone within that club who comes in and says ‘Listen, get yourselves together and let’s sort this out.'”
United will be hoping to get back on track soon as they face Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday, looking to avoid a third consecutive defeat.
