Eden Hazard is up there with Messi and Ronaldo, says ex-Chelsea captain John Terry

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has insisted that current club star Eden Hazard is “up there” with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Hazard has started the 2018/19 season in blistering fashion, quickly reaffirming his position as Chelsea’s most effective attacking player.

The Belgium wizard has scored five goals in six games so far this campaign for the Blues, including a hat-trick against recently promoted Cardiff City and a fantastic winning goal away to Liverpool in Chelsea’s 2-1 Football League Cup victory at Anfield earlier this week.

Despite being linked with a move away from the club throughout the summer, Hazard has started this season with real intent, convincing former club captain Terry that he is as talented as they come.

Speaking to reporters (via AS) Terry concluded that Hazard is on the same playing level as the two most effective players of this generation: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Terry said: “A couple of people recently are coming out and saying he’s not kind of the finished article but believe me he really is and he is up there with Messi and Ronaldo without a shadow of a doubt.

“I’ve seen him day in, day out for the last 5/6 years and he’s a top, top player and he will only get better as well.”

Hazard’s great start to the season is no surprise

His impressive goalscoring start to the season isn’t a surprise. To date, Hazard has scored 95 goals in 307 matches for the Blues, which averages out at 0.3 goals per game.

He has also provided 77 assists in the same amount of time, taking his contributions up to 172 which is extremely impressive across his six years in west London.

Under new boss Maurizio Sarri, Hazard seems to have been given a free role to cause damage across the pitch.

If he can continue this form throughout the campaign, not only will the Blues be right up there come the end of the season but they will also have to fend off some phone calls from a certain Spanish club, who will be eyeing up his signature.

Chelsea face another tough match against Liverpool this weekend, this time on home soil with the Premier League leaders heading south to Stamford Bridge for the fixture.
