Paris Saint-Germain forward Angel Di Maria has hailed Kylian Mbappe as a future Ballon d’Or winner.
Di Maria has slotted in well alongside Mbappe and Neymar as part of PSG’s forward trident, scoring three goals and creating three more for his team-mates already this season.
The Argentine wide-man has been particularly impressed with Mbappe, who has also contributed three assists on top of the four times he’s found the back of the net so far in Ligue 1.
Mbappe – who hogged most of the headlines following his excellent performances for France during their World Cup winning campaign in Russia this summer – is a Ballon d’Or winner in waiting according to Di Maria.
“If he continues at this level, he can win it in any year,” he told TF1 (via L’Equipe). “We see in each of his matches the potential that he has – he exploits it every time, even if he is only 19.”
Di Maria recently signed a contract that will extend his stay at the Parc des Princes until June next year. The 30-year-old says he is “very happy” at the club and is looking forward to challenging for the Champions League this season.
“The coach immediately came to talk to me, he made me understand that he was counting on me, that I was important to the team,” he added.
“I think he has come to win the Champions League … and we have a good chance of winning because we have Neymar, Mbappe and Edinson Cavani. The best!”
Di Maria began his career in Argentina with Primera Division side Rosario Central and the Argentina international says he intends to play out his career back in his homeland.
He continued: “The club knows what I want, we’ll see. I’d like to continue here, but I have always said that I would like to finish my career in Argentina. I hope that my last club in Europe will be Paris.”
PSG sit comfortably at the top of Ligue 1 with a nine-point advantage over St Etienne and Montpellier – their closest challengers. Most football observers expect the Parisians to clinch the title this season but their success in the Champions League is what they’ll ultimately be judged on, as they’ve failed to progress further than the quarter-finals in their last five attempts – last season they were knocked out in round-of-16.
PSG take on Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday in the Champions League.
