Marco Asensio hints at shirt switch despite missing out on Ronaldo’s No.7

Real Madrid star Marco Asensio has heavily hinted that it is his intention to change shirt numbers despite missing out on outgoing Cristiano Ronaldo’s number seven shirt.

Ronaldo left Madrid after nine years of service to join Italian giants and current Serie A champions Juventus this summer, having achieved practically everything possible during his time in Spain.

Asensio, 22, has made 95 appearances for the current Champions League holders, scoring 21 times, and has further established himself as a regular for Madrid following the departure of the Portugal forward.

Many expected Asensio to take the number 7 shirt at Real Madrid this summer, only for Mariano Diaz, who returned to the club from Lyon in August, to be given the iconic shirt instead.

Asensio says his current number 20 is not his preferred shirt number and has hinted that a switch could be on the way in the near future.

Speaking to reporters he said: “With the number ’20’ I would not like to finish my career, with that I say everything, if I would like to change it?

“Yes, we’ll see what happens”.

Real Madrid’s next fixture is away to Athletico Bilbao this Saturday.
