Barcelona do U-Turn on badge redesign

Barcelona have announced they will not be going ahead with the vote on their planned redesigning of the club’s badge.

In September, the club revealed they would be slightly altering their crest for the 2019/20 season, with the major change being the removal of the FCB initials.

Also included in the change was the removal of some minor details including the black outlines around certain parts of the badge’s inside.

But now, the club have revealed they will be postponing their planned vote on the crest after fans were not happy with the proposed change.

“The Board of Directors withdraw from the agenda the vote on the proposal to modify the 2nd article of the Statutes relating to the badge and assume an “internal reflection” on the subject,” Barcelona said in a message from their official Twitter account.

With the club looking to make minor changes off the pitch, on it, Barcelona have been strangely unlike themselves.

The defending La Liga champions are currently fourth in the table, having drawn three and lost one of their opening eight games.

Barcelona have also won just once in their past five games across all competitions, with the sole victory coming against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.

The other results in that poor run have seen Barcelona draw with Girona, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal while losing to then-winless Leganes. This came after the Blaugrana had enjoyed a perfect start to the season, winning their first five matches across all competitions.

Barcelona fans’ reaction to the initial proposal

Upon the initial announcement for the proposed change, Barcelona fans were quick to let the club know of their unhappiness.

At their match this afternoon, Barcelona fans voiced their opinions quite clearly, leaving no doubt on how they feel about both their badge and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Here is how the fans initially reacted on Twitter.
