Europe assist king Jadon Sancho reminds Dortmund director of Ousmane Dembele

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has likened Jadon Sancho to Ousmane Dembele after the Englishman’s fine start to the Bundesliga season.

Dembele left Dortmund for Barcelona in the summer of 2017 after scoring 10 goals in 50 games across all competitions for the German club.  Sancho, who arrived from the Manchester City academy, was essentially signed as Dembele’s replacement.

The 18-year-old has made 19 appearances for Dortmund so far, scoring twice, and was recently handed a new four-year contract.

And Zorc has heaped praised on the impact Sancho is making at Westfalenstadion.

“Jadon could still play in the under-19s,” Zorc said (via the Independent). “He’s brutally good, he can do things I have rarely seen.

“Even though he is a different player type – the extent to which his actions are not to defend – he reminds me of Ousmane Dembele.”

From one No.7 to another

Sancho has provided more assists (five) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues so far this season. He has also created eight chances from open play, all without starting a single game.

Dembele provided 11 assists in his final Bundesliga season – Sancho is almost half way there already.

What’s more, per 90 minutes this term, Sancho has created more chances (6.25) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

If his current form continues, the pressure will build on Gareth Southgate to pick Sancho in his next England squad.
