Former Chelsea great Frank Lampard would be worth £150 million if he was playing at his peak in 2018 according to former England striker Darren Bent.
Lampard is widely regarded as one of the best central midfielders of his generation and certainly one of the best in his position to grace the Premier League.
He is Chelsea’s all-time top goalscorer with 211 goals all from a deeper position, he has the fourth highest number of appearances for the Blues (648) and currently holds the incredible record of most consecutive league appearances for the club with 164.
After leaving the club and having brief stints in the US and back on home soil with Manchester City, Lampard is now retired and managing Championship side Derby County who are aiming to return to England’s top division.
Speaking to Sky Sports, former Three Lions striker Bent revealed he believes if Lampard was playing at his peak in today’s footballing world, he would be worth at least £150 million due to the current market.
Bent said: “If you look at Frank Lampard’s goal record, in any position, he is up there with the very best and if you think about Lampard now in today’s transfer market, you’re talking about £150 million for him.
“The guy scored 20 goals consecutively for about 10 years which is incredible. He’s a centre-midfield player who is Chelsea’s all-time top-goalscorer, which is insane.
“And even the way he used to prepare for training, watching him for England, his attitude towards the game.
“I always hear people say he had to maximise what he had to become a top player. Now obviously, I only met up with Frank in 2005/06 and by then he was already a top player, he’d already won Premier Leagues with Chelsea.
“I could see his desire when we were at England training, how hard he worked, he got about. You just don’t appreciate how good he is and how good he was until obviously, he’s gone.
“You look around the league now and no other midfielder can get anywhere near him in terms of goal-wise and if you look at the goals he scored, the crucial goals he scored in crucial games and how integral he was to Chelsea’s rise to what they are now.”
Lampard – the stats
Part of England’s golden generation, Lampard made 611 Premier League appearances in total, the third highest in history behind Gareth Barry (653) and Ryan Giggs (632).
Domestically, he pretty much won it all. Three Premier League titles (2004–05, 2005–06, 2009–10), the Champions League (2011-12), Europa League (2012-13), four FA Cups (2006–07, 2008–09, 2009–10, 2011–12), two Football League Cups (2004–05, 2006–07) and two FA Community Shields (2005, 2009).
Making his debut for his country in 1999, Lamps secured over 100 caps (106 to be precise) for England in a spell that – although didn’t finish with a trophy that was desired – saw him as a guaranteed starter, scoring 29 goals.
He also won a whole host of individuals awards in a career that saw him establish himself as one of football’s true greats.
