Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has heaped praise upon Naby Keita after the midfielder’s “outstanding” performance against Burnley.
Keita arrived at Anfield from RB Leipzig in the summer and made a promising start at his new club, but injuries have hampered any kind of consistency in his play in recent months.
However, Klopp restored Keita to his starting XI for Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday, with the Guinean international putting in a dynamic performance that was not lost on Henderson – Keita had more shots (six) than any other Liverpool player, striking the post with one, while his six duels won, was the most of any Reds midfielder on the night.
“He started the season brilliantly and obviously then getting an injury set him back a little bit. But you can see how good a player he is,” Henderson told the club’s official website of Keita.
“That shot with the left foot and the save from Hart was fantastic. In his overall play, he is comfortable on the ball and he helps build up play from the back.
“He drives the ball forward, which is big for us. I thought he was outstanding, along with everybody else really.”
“We’re not interested in Manchester City”
Wednesday’s victory keeps Liverpool just two points behind Premier League leaders and defending champions Manchester City.
If Liverpool could overtake City, it would leave them primed for a first league title win since 1990, but Henderson has insisted he and his teammates are not thinking about that, and are just taking things “game by game”.
“We are not really interested in City, to be honest, because there is a long way to go,” he added. “We know how good they are, we expect them to win.
“We just expect ourselves to win games and perform to the level that we have been – and if we do that we can keep winning. But we just focus on game by game and it doesn’t really matter about anybody else.
“The games are coming thick and fast, a lot of games in a short space of time but we showed we can use the squad and still perform to the level we know we are capable of and win games – and that’s a big plus for us.”
Liverpool’s next game is away at Bournemouth on Saturday.
