Mesut Ozil reacts to Arsenal’s thrilling NLD win v Spurs

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has responded to his team’s impressive 4-2 victory with a celebratory tweet.

Referring to team member Sead Kolašinac, Ozil tweeted his admiration for both his teammates and their performance overall.

The tweet was in response to the left back’s reaction at coming back from 2-1 down with three second-half goals to secure victory in the North London derby.

Ozil – who is currently the team’s highest earner – was absent for the match with reported “backache”, according to Gunners boss Unai Emery.

The Arsenal manager responded to reporters simply with “I don’t know” when asked whether the former Germany international would be watching the match.

This tweet seems to suggest that Ozil was watching the match, or that he was keen to distance himself from any further controversy regarding his absence.

His disappearance from the matchday squad was particularly striking due to Gary Neville’s pre-match prediction that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Ozil was left out of the derby.

Speaking about the transformation of the team under Emery, Neville said: “I thought he’d need three or four transfer windows to get it right here.

“You can see it evolving, this team. I think he’s achieving the maximum out of his team.

“There are a couple of players who are going to play less and less minutes, and have less and less influence at this football because they’re not on the journey he wants to go on.”

As Arsenal look forward to a mid-week trip to Manchester United, it remains to be seen whether or not Ozil will be involved.
