Gary Lineker: One Liverpool player is too good for his position

Gary Lineker believes Trent Alexander-Arnold is ‘too good a footballer to be a full-back’ following Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Man City on Thursday. 

Despite being on the losing side, Alexander-Arnold delivered a brilliant, cross-field pass to allow Andy Robertson to set up Roberto Firmino’s equaliser at the Etihad.

And adding his voice to that debate was Gary Lineker, who took to Twitter to voice his opinion with a post that read: “Brilliant play from Liverpool. I do think Trent Alexander-Arnold is too good a footballer to be a fullback. Must end up in midfield.”

Alexander-Arnold’s exploits in a Liverpool shirt have seen him pick up five caps for the England senior side to date, scoring once.

Liverpool’s defeat to Man City was their first in the Premier League this season and allows Pep Guardiola’s side to cut the gap to just four points at the top of the table.
