"He has that magic" - Herrera raves over Man Utd teammate

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has revealed his aim to help fellow club star Paul Pogba continue his ‘magical’ form of recent weeks.

United beat Newcastle United 2-0 at St James’ Park to extend their unbeaten run under new caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

What else does Pogba have up his sleeve? Four things to know…

  1. Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United last month.
  2. Pogba, who had many public spats with his former boss, had been criticised for his attitude and work rate.
  3. Since Solskjaer’s arrival, though, Pogba has three assists and four goals.
  4. Overall, he has created more chances (28) in the league than any United player this season.

Red Devils midfielder Herrera has publicly heaped praise on his United teammate, telling reporters that he hopes he can help support Pogba and along with the rest of the United squad, provide a platform for him to continue producing magic.

Herrera, as reported by Goal, said: “He is playing very simple and effective in our half, then when he is in the opponent’s half he has that magic to change the game.

“I think Nemanja [Matic] and me, or the other players, have to help him to make him feel free and that’s what we’re doing.

“He is very important for the club – [on] the pitch and out of the pitch as well. He’s playing really, really well.

“Not only with the ball. I think as soon as we lose the ball he is ready to defend, ready to help the team.”

Has Solskjaer saved Pogba’s Man Utd future?

After a summer of success on the international stage, Pogba was truly brought back down to earth when he returned to Manchester United for pre-season.

United lost two out of their opening three games, fell behind their league rivals almost immediately and relationships within the club became strained while outside of it criticism raged.

Mourinho reportedly called Pogba a virus in front of the United dressing room and the player was stripped of the captain’s armband and dropped in December for games against Arsenal and Fulham.

Such developments were thought to stem from Pogba’s public criticism of the team’s style of play. The France international also refused to rule out a departure from United amid links to Barcelona.

But Pogba has started all three games since Solskjaer stepped in, all of which the Red Devils have won. He has personally chipped in with the most goals (4) and assists (3) over this period. Such has been his transformation, teammate Jesse Lingard remarked that the Norwegian coach has brought back “the Paul Pogba I used to know.”

The next possible chance to see the real Paul Pogba is action comes this Saturday, when United play Reading in the FA Cup.
