Higuain responds to reporters waiting for Chelsea target at airport

Gonzalo Higuain has refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with a loan move from Juventus to Chelsea.

The striker, who is currently on loan at AC Milan, was mobbed by reporters at an airport after Milan’s Italian Supercoppa final defeat to Juventus as rumours about his future continue to mount.

Are Chelsea close to signing Higuain? Five key things to know…

  1. Higuain joined AC Milan on loan from Juventus at the beginning of the season.
  2. He has scored just six Serie A goals this season and there has been plenty of talk about the loan being cut short.
  3. According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Higuain on loan until the end of the season.
  4. There has been no official confirmation yet, but Higuain didn’t start against Juventus on Wednesday night.
  5. The Argentinian came on in the 71st minute for what could have been his final Milan appearance.

Sky Sports also claim that Chelsea will make room for Higuain by selling Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid.

However, despite reports suggesting a deal for Higuain is close, the player himself refused to talk above the loan move after Milan’s defeat to Juventus.

“Were you all waiting for me?” Higuain asked reporters at the airport, according to the Mirror.

“If you want to create mess [regarding the Chelsea transfer], I’m not the right person for you in this sense.”

Juventus: “It would not be respectful”

Former Juventus star Pavel Nedved, who is now on the board at the club, was also asked about Higuain’s possible move to Chelsea after the Supercoppa final.

But, like Higuain, Nedved was unwilling to discuss the deal out of respect for Milan.

“It’s not fair to speak about Higuain now,” Nedved said, via the Mirror. “It would be not respectful for him, nor for AC Milan. We’ll speak about him tomorrow.”

Chelsea will be hoping to conclude a deal for Higuain with important matches on the horizon.

The Londoners face Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend before the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Tottenham.
