Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has insisted his side are setting their sights on “winning everything” this season.
Thomas Tuchel’s men are currently 13 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with two games in hand on second-placed Lille and face Manchester United in the last-16 of the Champions League.
Can PSG finally win the Champions League? Four things to know…
- PSG have been dominant in France since their takeover in 2011, winning Ligue 1 in five of the past six seasons.
- This domination is yet to cross over into Europe, however, with PSG still awaiting a first Champions League semi-final since 1994/95.
- PSG face Man Utd in the last-16 of the Champions League this year and are favourites to advance.
- And Neymar believes this can finally be the year PSG go all the way to win the Champions League.
PSG are also still in the Coupe de France, scheduled to face Strasbourg in the round-of-32 on Wednesday though have been knocked out of the Coupe de la Ligue.
But Neymar believes PSG have it in them to go all the way in the Champions League this season, to add to their almost certain Ligue 1 title.
“We are winning everything,” Neymar told Canal+. “The Champions League is every footballer’s dream.
“We realise it is difficult, but our team can do it. We have high-quality players, we can aim high. We are on the right path. We have a great match coming up [against Manchester United]. It will be a great match for football lovers, and we are happy to face great teams.”
PSG have fallen at the round-of-16 in the past two Champions League campaigns, losing to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively. The French club’s best ever Champions League showing remains their semi-final appearance in 1994/95 when they lost to eventual runners-up AC Milan.
‘PSG are not underestimating Man Utd’
Manchester United have endured a season of ups and downs so far, sacking Jose Mourinho in December. But the Red Devils are enjoying a revitalised run under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And PSG star Kylian Mbappe has insisted his team-mates remain wary of the threat their opponents pose, not getting disillusioned by their problems under Mourinho.
“People’s point of view of that team may have changed, but ours hasn’t,” he said.
“Manchester United are a big club, this is the same team that were called weak before and now are considered the best, but it’s same players.
“In football, there are highs and there are lows. They have had some difficult moments, and now they are back in form. It’s a good team and we’ve to prepare for when we play them.”
The first leg is set for February 12 at Old Trafford, while the return leg in Paris will take place on March 6.
