It has been a year since Theo Walcott left Arsenal to join Everton.
Farhad Moshiri reportedly parted with £20m to bring the England international to the club and bolster their attack, although the 29-year-old has had mixed success so far.
That inconsistency is a great reflection upon Moshiri’s time at the club as well, with the Iranian businessman making 27 signings since becoming majority shareholder at Goodison Park in 2016, with each succeeding or failing in their own unique way.
Here at Squawka, we’ve ranked all 27 by their success at Everton in comparison to the fee paid for the player.
27. Davy Klaassen

Everton appearances: 16
There was a fair amount of excitement when Everton signed Davy Klaassen, especially considering his Europa League exploits, captaining Ajax to the final in 2017. That excitement was soon replaced with bemusement as the £24.3m man managed just seven Premier League appearances before moving onto Werder Bremen last summer.
26. Henry Onyekuru
Fee: £7m
Everton appearances: 0
A 26th ranking may seem a little harsh on Onyekuru. However, since his £7m move from Eupen in 2017, the 21-year-old has been unable to actually join Everton due to work permit issues. It’s all been quite embarrassing for the Toffees to be honest.
25. Sandro Ramirez
Fee: £5.25m
Everton appearances: 16
Everton’s £5.25m capture of Sandro Ramirez in 2017 looked like one of the bargains of the summer for a striker who scored 16 goals in 31 appearances for Malaga the season before.
In reality, they would have been better putting that money on the 3.15 at Newmarket, with Sandro scoring just one goal in 16 appearances for the Toffees and subsequently being loaned to Sevilla and Real Sociedad with similar struggles. Gamble responsibly, kids.
24. Eliaquim Mangala
Fee: Loan
Everton appearances: 2
With Everton leaking goals at will, Sam Allardyce turned to the loan signing of Eliaquim Mangala to help ease his defensive woes.
That move, however, did not work out at all as the Frenchman’s debut saw the Toffees sink to a 5-1 mauling at Arsenal, before coming off injured just before half-time in his second game against Crystal Palace – and that was that for Mangala at Everton.
23. Ashley Williams

Everton appearances: 73
Despite £11m being quite steep for a 31-year-old defender, Ashley Williams joined Everton with a great deal of pedigree in 2016.
Initially, the Wales international started quite well and rounded off that good start with a memorable winning goal against Arsenal in 2016. Things soon turned south, however, and by the 2017/18 season, he was pushing Lyon players into the Goodison Park stands rather than stopping them from scoring.
Williams is now on loan at Stoke City.
22. Yannick Bolasie
Fee: £25m
Everton appearances: 32
Another big-money signing that was supposed to help define the Ronald Koeman era at Goodison Park. Injuries have massively hampered Yannick Bolasie’s ability to prove himself for Everton.
As a result, Bolasie has only made 32 appearances for the club, scoring twice, and now finds himself on loan in the Championship with Aston Villa.
21. Cuco Martina
Fee: Free
Everton appearances: 28
Arriving on a free after working with Ronald Koeman at Southampton, Cuco Martina was always going to be a mere squad player.
The Curacao international always put in 100% for Everton, but a combination of being played out of position, featuring in a team in freefall, and just genuinely not being up to Premier League standard meant he never found his way into the hearts of Evertonians.
Martina joined Ashley Williams in moving to Stoke on loan for the 2018/19 season.
20. Joao Virginia

Everton appearances: 0
Joao Virginia moved to Everton from Arsenal last summer as the club looked to make it’s ball-playing ethos under Marco Silva intrinsic throughout the club.
The Portuguese goalkeeper is incredibly assured with the ball at his feet and has kept three clean sheets in seven games for the Everton U23 team so far.
19. Nikola Vlasic
Fee: £9.5m
Everton appearances: 19
Nikola Vlasic faced Everton in their Europa League play-off tie against Hajduk Split in 2017 and impressed enough for Ronald Koeman to throw £9.5m at the Croatian club for his services.
That was always going to be a big risk and although Vlasic did have a decent start to life at Everton, that soon faded as he was frozen out under Sam Allardyce. Marco Silva didn’t fancy Vlasic either and the 21-year-old is now on loan at CSKA Moscow, where has scored a winning goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League this season.
Despite his form in Russia, Vlasic expects Everton to sell him at the earliest opportunity.
18. Morgan Schneiderlin
Fee: £20m
Everton appearances: 64
Morgan Schneiderlin’s £20m arrival from Manchester United in January 2017 initially looked like a masterstroke, with the Frenchman pairing up brilliantly with the energetic Idrissa Gueye.
Schneiderlin’s form since the start of last season, however, has been a shadow of what he is capable of, with the 29-year-old falling into a painfully slow passing rhythm. The likes of Roma and West Ham have reportedly been eyeing up a move for the former Southampton man in recent months.
17. Enner Valencia (loan)
Fee: Loan
Everton appearances: 23
Enner Valencia’s loan signing from West Ham in 2016 certainly had Everton fans scratching their heads, while his three goals in 23 games is hardly a prolific return for a forward.
The reality, however, was that the Ecuadorian was only ever going to be back-up to Romelu Lukaku and Valencia often had a good impact from the bench when Everton were chasing games.
16. Maarten Stekelenburg
Fee: £900k
Everton appearances: 26
Maarten Stekelenburg spent his first season at Everton battling Joel Robles for the number one spot between the sticks during the 2016/17 season, making 21 appearances in all competitions.
However, Jordan Pickford arrived in 2017 and since then, the 2010 World Cup finalist has very much been back-up, only appearing in cup competitions. Not bad value for £900k, though.
15. Cenk Tosun

Everton appearances: 27
Cenk Tosun’s £27m arrival from Besiktas last January injected some much-needed goals in Sam Allardyce’s Everton side, with the Turkey international grabbing five Premier League goals at the end of the season.
Tosun is useful forward, but the signing of Richarlison, coupled with his lack of mobility simply not suiting Marco Silva’s style of play, has meant he has mainly appeared from the bench this season, scoring just two goals.
14. Bernard
Fee: Free
Everton appearances: 20
Everton’s capture of Bernard on a free transfer may just end up being one of the best pieces of business Moshiri ever does. The Brazilian hasn’t quite ignited yet, scoring just one goal so far, but his skill and trickery is there for all to see.
Bernard is slowly but surely adjusting to the demands of English football and has three Premier League assists so far this season.
13. Ademola Lookman
Fee: £11m
Everton appearances: 37
Tom Davies may have taken all the headlines in Everton’s 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City in 2017, but don’t forget that Ademola Lookman bagged himself a debut goal in the 94th minute of that game too.
Since then, the England youth international has struggled to hold down his place in the Everton starting XI, often having more impact from the bench. A successful loan spell at Leipzig last season has obviously taught him a lot about first-team football and Lookman was very impressive indeed in the Toffees’ recent 2-0 win over Bournemouth.
The 21-year-old is statistically the most efficient dribbler in the league, no player with more than 20 take-on attempts this season as a higher success rate than the U20 World Cup winner’s 73.9%.
Don’t be surprised to see Lookman shoot further up this list soon.

12. Wayne Rooney

Fee: Free (part of a swap deal with Man Utd for Romelu Lukaku)
Everton appearances: 117 (40 in second spell)
Wayne Rooney made his glorious return to Goodison Park in 2017, switching places with Romelu Lukaku, who took his place at Manchester United.

Things started really well with Rooney bagging a goal on his first game back against Stoke and going on to have 11 before the new year. However, following the appointment of Sam Allardyce as manager, the goals dried up, with the last coming from the penalty spot in a 3-1 win over Swansea on matchday 20 of last season.
Rooney did, however, score from 59 yards as part of a hat-trick against West Ham and still finished the season as Everton’s top scorer before moving on to DC United.
11. Yerry Mina
Fee: £26.6m
Everton appearances: 8
After his wonderful goalscoring exploits at the 2018 World Cup, Everton shelled out £26.6m to bring Yerry Mina in from Barcelona over the summer.
Following his recovery from injury, the Colombian has had to contend with Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma for a starting place in the Everton defence, but has looked full of poise for the most part – away displays against Man City and Brighton show there is room for improvement.
Mina also scored Everton’s 7000th top-flight goal in a 5-1 win over Burnley in December.
10. Theo Walcott
Fee: £20m
Everton appearances: 38
After years of being on the edge of brilliance at Arsenal, Theo Walcott made a £20m move to Everton in January 2018 in search of first-team football.
Things started well with the 29-year-old getting two goals and an assist in his first two games. Inconsistency has been the theme once again, though, with Walcott scoring a total of seven goals for the Toffees so far, going from insatiable to infuriating in the blink of an eye.
9. Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Fee: £1.5m
Everton appearances: 77
Dominic Calvert-Lewin arrived from Sheffield United for just £1.5m in August 2016 and has since scored the winning goal in a World Cup final for the England U20 team.
At club level, Calvert-Lewin has 15 goals to his name in royal blue and although he sometimes lacks the cutting edge and footballing quality to be an elite striker, the 21-year-old has proven a great threat in the air and a very effective option off the bench for Everton.
8. Michael Keane
Fee: £25m (rising to £30m)
Everton appearances: 55
There was an immense amount of pressure put on the shoulders of Michael Keane following his £25m switch to Everton from Burnley in 2017.
Things didn’t get off to a great start for him at Goodison Park and Keane often looked like a rabbit in the headlights in a struggling Everton side last season.
The start of this campaign has been much kinder to the England international, though, and Keane has won more aerial duels (118) and made more clearances (104) than any other Everton player so far this season.
7. Kurt Zouma
Fee: Loan
Everton appearances: 21
Kurt Zouma still harbours ambitions of a return to Chelsea following this season, although Evertonians will be hoping the Frenchman will change his mind after the start he has made to his loan spell.
Zouma has made 57 clearances and won 48 aerial duels in the Premier League so far this season, with only Michael Keane winning more for Everton, while his presence has brought the aforementioned England international’s game on leaps and bounds.
6. Andre Gomes
Fee: Loan
Everton appearances: 13
Andre Gomes’ struggles at Barcelona truly are baffling when you consider just how good of a footballer he is.
Evertonians had to wait until October for Gomes to make his debut due to injury, but since then, they have taken to the Portuguese playmaker like a house on fire. His excellent ball retention and use of possession as seen him hailed as the next Mikel Arteta.
Everton will be desperate to make this loan deal from Barcelona permanent.
5. Lucas Digne
Fee: £18m
Everton appearances: 18
Lucas Digne has delivered more crosses (175) than any other player in the Premier League this season, while nobody has provided more assists in the competition so far for Everton than his three.
Digne looks to be the perfect Leighton Baines replacement they have been searching for – even Jurgen Klopp agrees – and his form has seen him earn a recall to the French national team – £18m seems like a real snip now.
4. Jordan Pickford
Fee: £25m (rising to £30m)
Everton appearances: 65
Many fans baulked at the massive fee Everton paid to Sunderland for Jordan Pickford in 2017. However, since the start of last season, Pickford has kept the fourth-highest amount of clean sheets (15) of any Premier League goalkeeper, making 185 saves in the process.
Despite some mistakes, his exploits for England at the World Cup are the stuff of legend and at just 24 years of age, Everton could have themselves a top goalkeeper for years to come.
3. Idrissa Gueye
Fee: £7.1m
Everton appearances: 90
Following Aston Villa’s relegation from the Premier League in 2016, Everton were quick to trigger the £7.1m release clause in Idrissa Gueye’s contract.
The Toffees were right to do it – Gueye has made the second-most tackles (191) of any Premier League player since the start of last season and his side look bereft of cover in front of the defence when he doesn’t play.
His form has led to links to French giants PSG recently, although Everton don’t look interested in letting the 29-year-old leave.
2. Gylfi Sigurdsson
Fee: £45m
Everton appearances: 53
At £45m, Gylfi Sigurdsson was Everton’s club record signing when he arrived in 2017. The Icelandic wizard introduced himself to the Toffees faithful with a wondrous strike from out wide near the halfway line against Hajduk Split in August 2017, and has kept on bagging worldies ever since.
The 29-year-old only scored six goals last season as Everton really struggled to be a real football team, let alone suit Sigurdsson’s needs on the pitch. He already has nine goals to his name this season, though, as Everton look like a much more fluid side in attack under Marco Silva, chipping in three assists along the way.
1. Richarlison

Everton appearances: 20
Paul Merson claimed that Everton’s big-money capture of Richarlison in July ‘ruined the transfer market’, while nobody was quite sure whether they had paid £35m, £40m or £50m for the Brazilian.
Regardless of the fee, Richarlison’s nine goals so far have had a massive impact at Goodison Park, as well as earning the 21-year-old a call-up to the Brazilian national team.
Richarlison has been deployed from the left wing and a centre-forward so far this season, looking happy in either role, while his continued good form has dispelled any suggestion that his impact would fade as it did at Watford last year. The only question for Everton: how do they keep hold of him long term?
