Solskjaer reveals one surprise name has impressed Sir Alex Ferguson in Man Utd training

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed how impressed Sir Alex Ferguson has been with Giuseppe Rossi in Manchester United training.

The Italian forward scored four goals in 14 appearances for United between 2004 and 2006 before going on to have a nomadic career, turning out for various clubs in England, Italy and Spain.

Is Rossi returning to Man United? Five key things to know…

  1. Giuseppe Rossi scored four goals in 14 appearances for the Red Devils between 2004 and 2006.
  2. Since then, the forward has played for various clubs in England, Italy and Spain, scoring 128 goals at club level.
  3. The 31-year-old currently a free agent after being released by Genoa.
  4. Rossi has been training with Man United recently in order to keep his fitness levels up, impressing Sir Alex Ferguson with his finishing.
  5. Caretaker boss Solskjaer has no plans to sign Rossi, claiming the Italian will only stay with them for another week.

However, Rossi is now without a club and is being allowed to train with the Red Devils in order to keep up his fitness for any potential suitors.

And although Solskjaer has denied any plans to sign Rossi, he did reveal how well the 31-year-old has been doing, even grabbing the attention of Sir Alex Ferguson.

“We’re not going to sign Giuseppe I think, no, but he’s trained well with us,” revealed Solskjaer to the club’s website, before he further explained how Sir Alex Ferguson has been impressed by his finishing.

He added: “He looks sharp, he’s looking for a club so Giuseppe is probably going to stay with us for another week, unless someone takes him.

“He scored a fantastic goal yesterday [Saturday] in training. The gaffer [Sir Alex Ferguson] turned around and said ‘what about that son?’

“It’s a bit of us helping him to get fit before his next move, so if there are any takers you should be quick!”

What are Man United’s January transfer plans?

Man United have been linked with a host of players in recent months, with a centre-back appearing to be their prime target.

Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly has been the main name talked up as a potential target, although Solskjaer has been keen to play down any transfer talk, insisting he is not in control of that side of the club.

“I read the news sometimes and the speculation around this club is incredible,” Solskjaer said prior to Man United’s win over Tottenham at the weekend.

“Some players I have not even heard of, all this speculation about transfers I can’t really comment on apart from that we have [current] players that we are in discussions with but that is not down to me either.”

Man United face Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday.
