The 10 most exciting cards we can’t wait to play with on FIFA 19

It is that time of year again. The season has kicked off, the football is flowing and the next FIFA instalment is within touching distance.

That’s right, FIFA 19’s official release date is 28th September and already console players – both of the Xbox and Playstation variety – are in anticipation of getting their hands on the latest, greatest players within the game.

Here are, in our humble opinion, the 10 most exciting player cards that we can’t wait to play with on FIFA 19’s ultimate team.

Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Position: CF

Rating: 94

Key stat: 96 Dribbling

Of course, the greatest player in the world – agree Cristiano Ronaldo fans? – is one of the most hotly anticipated players to take charge of on this year’s FIFA release.

The Barcelona and football legend has transformed from a right-winger to an official centre-forward, with his overall rating matched by only Ronaldo himself. His exquisite dribbling stats will continue to make him one of the most unstoppable players on any console, reminiscent of his abilities in real life.

Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)

Position: RW

Rating: 87

Key stat: 96 Pace

The young Frenchman didn’t have too bad of a year in football, did he? Honours galore on a domestic level was bettered in the summer where Mbappe showcased his ability to the world’s stage for the first time, helping his nation win their first World Cup in 20 years.

What he displayed in Russia was his electric pace and his mesmerising dribbling ability, both of which have been updated and improved on this year’s edition.

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

Position: CAM

Rating: 91

Key stat: 92 Passing

Another star who had an incredible year in football. A historic double with Manchester City – including a Premier League title win which saw the blue half of Machester register 100 points – and a successful World Cup campaign that saw Belgium creep onto the podium, De Bruyne’s calendar year has been quite something.

Which is why he is one of the greatest all-round players on the game, with his ability to do pretty much everything represented with 92 passing, 87 dribbling, 86 shooting, 78 physical and 77 pace, all helping his all-round ranking reach 91.

Samuel Umtiti (Barcelona)

Position: CB

Rating: 87

Key stat: 88 Defending

Another World Cup champion who has had an incredible season both domestically and internationally. Umtiti has established himself as one of the greatest defenders in world football at present and his stats reflect that.

88 defending and 82 physical – with some decent pace to boot – will see Umtiti’s popularity within the game flourish. Expect to come up against him at regular opportunities.

David Silva (Manchester City)

Position: CAM

Rating: 89

Key stat: 91 Dribbling

Arguably the greatest player in Manchester City history, Silva continued his genius form throughout last season for Pep Guardiola’s side.

There are few that possess better passing and dribbling stats than Silva and alongside his City partner De Bruyne, these two would make a formidable pairing in your Ultimate Team.

Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)

Position: CB

Rating: 86

Key stat: 86 Defending

What is it with this French generation and fantastic defenders? Not only has he won endless Champions League titles with Madrid but Varane was a massive part in France’s success this summer.

Of course, his defending stats are incredible but to have such pace to go alongside his natural ability makes Varane one of – if not – the greatest defenders in the world, both in and out of FIFA.

Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)

Position: CB

Rating: 87

Key stat: 88 Defending

Speaking of world-class defenders, Napoli rock Koulibaly actually pips Varane in the FIFA rankings this year. His excellence saw his side come close to pipping Italian giants Juventus to the league title last year.

On the game, his physicality and defending is going to be well-sought after as people begin to build their respective teams and formations. However, the Senegalese star’s 46 passing stat does seem to surprise many, including us.

Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)

Position: CM

Rating: 90

Key stat: 89 Passing

The German star is another Real Madrid talent who has been part of their fantastic European adventures across the past few years. Forming a scarily talented partnership with Luka Modric, Kroos is one of the best of his kind.

Another factor we’re delighted to see is his pace has risen from a sluggish 50 to a more respectable 67, which when added to his passing, makes Kroos one of the ones to watch.

N’Golo Kante (Chelsea)

Position: CDM

Rating: 89

Key stat: 87 Defending

We had to mention everyone’s favourite French smiler didn’t we? The two-time Premier League winner and newly crowned king of the world with France is the best defensive midfielder in world football.

His defending is naturally sky-high but with his pace ranked at 80 and both his dribbling and physicality even better, how do you break down such a menace of a footballer?

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio)

Position: CM

Rating: 85

Key stat: 84 Physicality

Sought after by most of Europe’s biggest clubs due to his form in a Lazio shirt, Milinkovic-Savic will be equally as in demand on FIFA 19.

Every attribute bar his pace – which sits at a respectable 69 – is above 77, making him another fantastic all-round choice to put smack-bang in the middle of your assigned team.
