Andreas Christensen heavy-hearted about lack of playing time at Chelsea

Andreas Christensen has expressed his frustration at a lack of playing time for Chelsea.

The 22-year-old Danish central defender has been sparsely used by new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri with him yet to register a single Premier League minute this season.

Christensen, who previously enjoyed a loan spell at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Mönchengladbach, feels if the situation doesn’t change soon he’ll be looking for pastures new.

“It has been a hard season and to be honest, it has been very difficult,” he said (via The Times).

“I cannot stand to have so much patience again. Now I’m 22 years old and I really want to play. In the last three seasons, I’ve played, so it’s clear that I do not see myself staying if my current situation is also true in the future.

“It’s too early to talk about when to change if I’m going to change. But it is clear that it is not a good situation for me. It has been difficult to get into the team, and when we get the good results that we currently do, it will only be even harder.

“It’s a gift for the team, but for me personally it has been a hard start of the season.”

Christensen so far

Christensen joined Chelsea’s youth set-up from boyhood club Bröndby in the summer of 2012 and like so many youngsters at Stamford Bridge would subsequently be sent out on loan.

The 20-time capped Denmark international enjoyed two seasons at ‘Gladbach where he racked up no fewer than 82 appearances for the German side bagging seven goals in the process.

Since returning to west London in 2017 the native of Lillerød has featured across 46 matches for Chelsea with 28 of those coming in the Premier League, becoming a key figure for Antonio Conte’s defence last season.

However, his only appearances under new boss Sarri have to date been reserved for the Europa League (two matches) and League Cup (one).
