Carlos Tevez: I’d rather watch golf than El Clasico

Carlos Tevez has admitted in an interview how he dislikes football and would rather watch golf than El Clasico.

The 34-year-old, now with Boca Juniors in Argentina, recently returned to his homeland after a spell in China with Shanghai Shenua.

And the attacker, who has 76 caps to his name for his native Argentina and famously left Man United for Man City, has said he doesn’t watch even the most vaunted footballing ties, and instead watches the golf.

“If Barcelona and Real Madrid are playing each other, but there is a golf tournament on another channel, I’ll choose to watch the golf instead,” he explained in an interview with Clarin, via Marca.

“I don’t watch any football on television.

“I don’t like football, I’ve never been a fan of football, I simply like to play and to have the ball at my feet.”

Speaking about playing football as a child in Argentina, Tevez said: “It was hard, but we were happy.

“We were always playing football in our neighbourhood.

“It was brave, we lived in a situation that is the same in every small neighbourhood where there are drugs, weapons and robberies.”

Tevez at Boca Juniors

Tevez signed professionally with Boca Juniors in 2001, having been a junior there since 1997, and stayed for four years, scoring 38 goals before moving to Corinthians in 2005.

Now in his third stint with Boca, he has since made 24 appearances for his childhood club, scoring seven.

He has so far notched three in the Copa de Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the Champions League, after having appeared eight times.

Boca’s next game in the Argentine Primera Division is against mid-table Rosario Central on October 20.
