Eden Hazard has claimed the criticism of Brazil star Neymar during the World Cup for his diving theatrics was “totally unacceptable”.
Neymar infamously rolled a number of times after a challenge from a Swiss player in the World Cup in Russia, much to the chagrin of any and all onlookers. Such was the notoriety of the move, the internet spawned a meme.
Both Neymar and Hazard have been linked with respective moves to Real Madrid, and both played important roles for their respective countries in this summer’s World Cup.
And now Hazard has argued Neymar did not intend to cheat with his theatrics, but instead felt pressure to bring international footballing success back to Brazil. What’s more, the Belgian winger feels the Brazilian shouldn’t have been playing in the first place, having sustained a serious foot injury in February of 2018.
“Totally inappropriate,” Hazard told HLN when asked about the criticism the PSG star received, via Daily Express.
“Neymar suffered about the same injury two months before the World Championships as I did in June 2017 – a break between the ankle and the foot.
“He was out for a month and a half.”

Hazard continued: “I can assure you, the body is not immediately ready for top performance again. Yet in Russia, all responsibility came to his shoulders.
“He had to be the star of the tournament, he had to carry Brazil to the world title, he had to dribble, and all media peeked.
“Plus, I know Neymar: he also wants to give the audience something. Then you can not criticize someone like that who did not even play a bad World Cup.”

Despite the criticism, and injury Neymar has started the 2018/19 season in incredible form, scoring or assisting in each of his last 13 games for club & country.
The Brazilian has also contributed to 11 league goals so far this campaign, a tally equalled only by teammate Kylian Mbappe.

Meanwhile, Hazard is also enjoying a blistering beginning to 2018/19.
The Belgian has seemingly been unleashed by new manager Maurizio Sarri, leading the Premier League goalscoring charts with seven goals whilst the three assists he has provided makes him the only player in England’s top flight to have contributed to 10+ goals after the first eight games.
So brilliantly have both No.10s started the season, on-loan Juventus winger Marko Pjaca recently claimed that Neymar and Hazard were the best wingers in the world at this current moment, even claiming that he himself can reach their level should he avoid any more serious injuries.
