Choosing the right team to suit your particular style on FIFA 19 can be a laborious task, so over at Squawka, we’ve tried to make it a bit simpler for you by recommending some of our favourite teams in the game.
Whether you are firing up a Career Mode, playing Online Seasons or looking to gain the upper hand on your mates in Kick-Off Mode, we’ve got you covered.
Here is our top ten most exciting 4.5 and 5-star teams to play with this year.
4.5 star teams
Borussia Dortmund
Always a good choice to play with on FIFA, Borussia Dortmund are still an exciting team to use even following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure to Arsenal in January.
Paco Alcacer may not be as appealing as the Gabonese forward, but this side is all about the midfielders with Marco Reus, Christian Pulisic and Axel Witsel providing strong support.
And if that isn’t enough, Dortmund have Mario Gotze and Europe’s assist-king Jadon Sancho to call on from the bench, with the latter boasting five-star skill moves. A big contender for Career Mode.
Inter Milan
Back competing with Europe’s elite in the Champions League this season, Inter Milan are the best they have been for some time and it is mimicked on FIFA 19.
With 87-rated Mauro Icardi leading the line, flanked by World Cup star Ivan Perisic and Matteo Politano, Inter can be a dark horse on the game.
That’s before you consider the newly-signed Radja Nainggolan in midfield and Lauro Martinez, Borja Valero and Keita Balde to bring on from the bench.
Napoli
Maurizio Sarri may be gone from Napoli in real life, but you can still use his system and most of his players to massive effect in FIFA 19.
All three of Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon and Lorenzo Insigne possess 88 pace or above, with the latter being Napoli’s highest-rated player in the game.
And that is all before you look at Marek Hamsik in midfield and Kalidou Koulibaly, who saw his rating improve from 84 to 87, in defence.
Lyon
An exciting young side, Lyon would be perfect for a long-term Career Mode save, and FIFA 19 may represent the last time you can use this bunch before the vultures swoop in on their talent.
Memphis Depay is the standout name, leading the line, with five-star skills but Lyon’s exciting play goes further than just the Dutchman.
Nine of the default matchday 18 players for Lyon boast four-star skill moves including midfield titan Tanguy Ndombele and former Celtic man Moussa Dembele.
Villarreal
Another 4.5 star side with a five-star skiller, Villarreal are very much about Santi Cazorla.
The Spaniard was perhaps a surprise inclusion on the list of players with five-star skill moves but you can use his abilities to help attack from deep.
If you don’t want to solely rely on Cazorla, Villarreal do have the likes of Carlos Bacca, Gerard Moreno and Manu Trigueros, who received a rating boost from 81 to 83 for FIFA 19.
5 star teams
Barcelona
Just look at that starting XI! How can you not want to play with Barcelona?
With a combined overall rating of 267, you won’t find many better attacking trios than Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele. Then, further back Barcelona boast some of the best players per position with only Dembele and Sergi Roberto rated lower than 87 of the default starting XI.
And if that isn’t enough for you, the Blaugrana have a simply ridiculous bench, giving the options of Malcom, Arturo Vidal, Rafinha, Arthur, Clement Lenglet and Nelson Semedo to call on.
Liverpool
Off the back of their barnstorming year last season, Liverpool’s front three has received a massive boost for FIFA 19.
Sadio Mane went from 84 rated to 86, Roberto Firmino from 83 to 86 and Mohamed Salah going up from 83 to 88, with both Mane and Salah boasting 90+ pace.
At the back, game-wise, they are still relatively weak but Virgil van Dijk is a good addition and the young pairing of Jose Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold can be an exciting prospect. Naby Keita in midfield is also a mouth-watering prospect.
Manchester City
If you thought Barcelona’s strength in depth was good, take a look at Manchester City’s.
City have an embarrassment of riches to call upon in FIFA 19, building on last season’s already-ridiculous squad.
Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are the standout options 89-rated and above, but the flanks is where City can be at their best. Don’t feel like using Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane? Go for Riyad Mahrez and David Silva. Then there’s the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Ilkay Gundogan, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones who struggle to get into the FIFA 19 starting XI.
PSG
PSG were exciting to play with on FIFA 18 and, despite few changes from last season, are on another level this year.
Neymar has retained his spot as the third-best player with a rating of 92, coupled with the 87-rated wonderkid Kylian Mbappe and 89-rated Edinson Cavani to form a terrifying front line when Angel Di Maria is thrown into the mix in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Summer-signing Gianluigi Buffon represents a wall at the back, and for Career Mode use, 18-year-old Timothy Weah is an exciting prospect could can go as high as 85 – an improvement of 16 from his initial rating.
Real Madrid
Following the departure of a certain world superstar in the summer, some people may opt to avoid Real Madrid in FIFA 19.
But do so at your own peril, with Los Blancos now an intriguing side. Marco Asensio or Isco (now 89-rated) can be used to join Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale up top, while Mariano Diaz and Lucas Vazquez are other options.
Past that, Madrid have one of the best midfields in the game including 91-rated The Best Men’s Football Player winner Luka Modric, who is joined on that rating by centre-back Sergio Ramos. 90-rated Thibaut Courtois also adds to an unfairly strong defence.
