Gonzalo Higuain reveals the “fundamental difference” in Chelsea and AC Milan transfer pitches

Gonzalo Higuain has revealed AC Milan “wanted” to sign him more than Chelsea.

The 30-year-old Argentine marksman completed a sensational loan move to the Rossoneri from rivals Juventus in the summer.

Milan beat off competition from Chelsea, now managed by Higuain’s former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri, who wanted to bring him to London, but it was a feeling not reciprocated by the powers that be at Stamford Bridge.

“Sarri was the only one to want me at Chelsea,” he said, according to the Metro.

“Everybody wanted me at AC Milan, while in London I was only wanted by the manager. AC Milan insisted to sign me, Elliott did a big effort for me and Leonardo, Maldini and Gattuso know the club very well. I really appreciated their approach during the negotiations.”

Pipita in Italy

Since joining the Italian top division in 2013 from Real Madrid, Higuain has gone on to register 115 goals across 182 appearances for Napoli (71 goals in 104 games), Juventus (40 goals in 73 games) and AC Milan (4 goals in 5 games) combined.

Higuain’s efforts during the 2015/16 season, his final with Napoli under Sarri, brought him 36 goals in 35 matches which saw the Brest-born footballer create a piece of history.

Not since the 1928/29 campaign had any Serie A player scored as much with Higuain equalling Torino forward Gino Rossetti’s record.

His final season for Juve saw him bag 16 goals across 35 league outings, well short of the 29 his compatriot Mauro Icardi registered for Inter Milan.
